Big-name artists often say to get one box and learn it inside-out, and that it doesn't really matter what equipment you use. This performance validates that idea, that you don't need expensive crap and it doesn't help you make better music.

We have the 10 minute Fact Mag challenge, which is interesting. However, the 40 minute live set with just an MC-303 challenge would be far better. He pulls this off without breaking a sweat. The machine is notoriously bad to programme. Sells for about 35-70 quid. Terrance Dixon; hats off! You made me dance to this one.

@jamesscozzari5008

Because it's notoriously difficult to program. This was the first "DAW in a box". The only problem with that is that accessing a lot of its features required hours of memorizing keyboard shortcuts, and you had a four digit screen to program it through. This was the dark ages of music hardware. I still use mine regularly for stuff like this.

Debatje Its because he is limiting himself to one old skool kinda crappy synth called the mc-303. These are now going for less than $150 and are difficult and limited in how they are used. He is basically taking this little machine to its max. If it runs out of memory then it stops sequencing, it is limited to 4mb of memory. He can't edit a sequence while it is running so he has to let it stop and then he can add in something new.
@laterthanyou
9 жыл бұрын
tracer690 I'm going to assume that you never did anything on a MC 303. You absolutely can edit while playing. There are 3 ways to record. Live record, Step record, and TR step record. Only step record requires you to not be playing a pattern when using it. It was a great little machine for anyone that wanted to get into EDM back than without a budget or a recording studio. I still use mine for jotting down quick ideas and sending midi data to my DAW and other synths to drive better sounds. If you have a chance pick one up and play with it. Good times.
@tracer690
9 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Range Word man I just picked one up actually via trade but haven't learned how to use it. Its a great first drum machine imo. What I can't decide is whether to connect it to my ensoniq sq-80, what are the types of things I could do if I did this? Could it be used to trigger sounds on my ensoniq? I'm gonna get to work on it eventually, requires a firm commitment of an hour or longer to learn it.
@laterthanyou
9 жыл бұрын
tracer690 yep I used to have an ESQ-1 though I sold it a long time ago. I believe the RYM track is hard coded to a single midi channel. You might be able to choose which midi channel you send on. I think it still sends midi data while in RT step record so you basically have an XOX box sequencer that you can drive other machines with. The arpeggerator is fun too on high hats...
