"you can understand him as long as the room is quite , the only people making fun of his speech are people that dont fight ," I don't think anyone is making fun of him. I'm saddened by his and every other boxer's brain damage. I saw a video of James Toney recently and he's got that same gravel voice and speaks like he has a mouth full of marbles too. If you box professionally and have a long career, there's a big chance of suffering from pugilistic dementia ....and yet, no one is saying or doing anything about it. The only way to stop this from happening more often is compulsory retirement after, for example, 25 years old or after a certain number of professional fights. Also by changing the rules so KO-ed or TKO-ed or those who have taken lots of head shots in a fight should be banned from fighting for, for example, for 12 months. Education, testing, monitoring etc also needs to be done. Money from boxing needs to be set aside for retirement and treatment of all professional boxers, for example 10% of the profit from each fight needs to put into a fund that can make pension and medical payments for all boxers. Boxing needs to stop whispering about how tragic this is or talking out loud saying "what a warrior he was" and actively do something about helping minimize boxer's brain damage .

Norris was prone to shots on the temple, Felix has a tremendous left hook but was a slower starter than my man Norris and Terry could of chose to win by just boxing but would of went to war with Trinidad.

It just shows how individualized fighters are regarding ill-effects from head blows. George Chuvalo took crunching shots from Frazier, Quarry, Foreman, Ali, Patterson, and so many others and he was relatively lucid into his seventies. Terry Norris took head bombs from Julian Jackson and Simon Brown only from what I recall. Then I remembered he had almost three hundred amateur fights and also took blows from Curry, Castro, Taylor, Waters, Rios, Rupa, Mullings, and even Boudouani in his last fight when he had already sustained significant head trauma. I remember listening to a Norris interview before his fight with Rosenblatt and was shocked even then how his speech had been affected. Norris was a fine champion with extraordinary ability but thank goodness he didn't get in the ring with Gerald McClellan or rematched Julian Jackson.
@hw5091
2 жыл бұрын
Ironic you mention McClellan. Anyways some guys take it harder than others, and it affects speech more than others, where it may affect short term memory, etc more than speech. Just too many shots the head, too many concussions. Unless you have a head like a damn mastiff, like Foreman or Mercer, it's going to take a heavy toll. He is small, and was in double the fights most guys ever did, which includes all the more sparring, etc.
@ConcernedResident_GiantStack

All fighters should have a portion of their salary put into a retirement account so that they don't end up penniless. In addition, all boxers should be covered by some sort of national boxing health insurance. And to make this even "safer", every fighter should undergo an independent CAT scan every 2 years for re-licensing. Terry had over 300 amateur fights and over 60 professional fights. That's just too much for one body to absorb.
@Ivantheterrible81280

You’re assuming most fighters are financially sound enough to do that, and that they are smart enough to not get involved with promoters, managers, etc. that don’t take practically every dime. That’s assuming a lot.

I agree I said it should 5 percent of each fighters purse put in a (FRA) Fight Retirement Account Therefore if a fighter got paid let's say an average of 1 million a fight over a 40 fight career. Which we know most fighters don't but it's an (ie). So 5 percent of 1 million is 50k. (50k x 40fights)=2Million dollars. And the day they retire they get access to the FRA for their career. Imagine what Mike Tyson FRA would have looked like with and average of 13 million a fight. 5 percent of 13 million would be {650k x 58fights}=37million. That would be a helluva 401k oh yeah FRA
