Limited features in the UK and EU: - Navigate on Autopilot (Only available on 'motorways' in the UK) - Automatic lane changes (Only available on 'motorways', can't do lane changes on dual carridgeways) - Smart Summon (Can only travel 20 meters total and you must be within Bluetooth range, so basically at the door) - Autosteer (Can only perform up to 0.3g of lateral acceleration, meaning it slams on heavily for even rather mild turns) - Automatic lane changes again (Must indicate 3 times and move within x seconds, otherwise time out and move back to the original lane) - Attention checker, 'wheel nag' (Every 10 seconds, not up to 45 (I think?) in the US) Probably a bunch I'm missing, but those are the main ones that come to mind. :) At the end of the day... The FSD package in Europe offers 'some' automatic lane changes, 'occasional' following route (It struggles a lot on many EU interchanges it seems), and that's about it really.

There is still value in buying now but not joining beta and wait until the beta is replaced with general release. It was £4000 when I bought it expecting to not get much for many years. The Nav on AP was so useful on my Grand Tour of Europe in 2019, I reckoned I had my value for money already. I planned to hope to benefit from true FSD as I reached the age when I would otherwise have to think about hanging up my car keys, so extending my personal mobility by quite a few years. This will be my last vehicle if it doesn’t get killed in an accident, so FSD was highly desirable as a gamble purchase when I could afford that, but not the long range AWD. I knew I would not ever manage the increased price if I waited until it was a definite done deal, so buying when I did made sense - it was then or never for me. If I had to make that decision now, it would be harder, but I might still opt in now to beat future price rises, knowing that retirement income wouldn’t justify monthly rental.

I would never get FSD or Auto Pilot features for where I drive, just around town and I know where I am going. I have had FSD in all our Tesla's, starting with AP1 in our 2015 MS85D, and FSD in my wife's 2018 M3, and my ordered MS LR, hopefully taking delivery in March. I love using it on trips.

I recently purchased a Tesla, and included was 3 months of full self driving. So I tried it. And, it works. Occasionally, I have taken over because it can't read a "Detour" sign or it takes too long to change lanes, but overall, it really works. The best thing about it is that it displays on the screen what it is thinking and what it is about to do. You can tell it's going to stop at the stop sign, or that it sees the red light, or that it sees the pedestrian, or that it's going to turn left, you can tell that it sees the oncoming traffic, or whatever else it is thinking. It's pretty remarkable.

Bloody Omaze, spamming their advertising everywhere and now people taking sponsorship money from them? This is a problem, you need to do some research if you're going promote them. If it were me I wouldn't take their money. They are operating a lottery without the normal checks and conditions, It is a for profit company, this is not a good way to raise money for charity, it's a good way to make the founders rich.

FSD option is not just 'full self driving capability', other features like Summon, Parking, Navigate on Autopilot, Traffic Light recognition etc are vastly underestimated in my opinion. I use Summon feature all the time to bring the car out of my relatively tight garage, Traffic Light recognition is also my favorite feature as well. As long as you own the car over 5 yrs, considering all the other readily usable features, 12k investment seems no brainer to me. Meanwhile, if you choose subscription plan for FSD, do not expect to use FSD beta every time you re-subscribe it, you need to go through the Safety Check process over again.

The fact that people will pay $12,000 for the mere chance of being a beta tester makes no sense to me. At the very least Tesla should offer this feature for free during beta testing. The only people who this makes any sense for is guys getting rich off of you tube videos.

Well, it's $15k now (I see you upgraded the title), so if you're getting say a Model 3 for $40k that comes down to $32.5k with the tax credit, how can you justify adding a 50% premium to the car just to feed training data to Tesla's AI? I attended the Darpa autonomous vehicle challenge in 2009 and Carnegie Mellon won. They arguably have the best AI scientists in the world and their car ran over cones, off the road, and got stuck in the mud. For now, it's best to have AI focus on things that the driver might miss so the operator is always engaged, while freely uploading driver data for incremental upgrades (I know Tesla uploads data from all drivers, but the author of this article stated that contributing to the database was a reason why he purchased FSD).

For EVERYONE proposing to tell Tesla what to do about FSD, Tesla will do whatever makes economic sense. You aren’t smarter than Tesla or you would own and manufacture a company like Tesla. The price of FSD is based on its future worth that’s why the price increases each time progress is made. If you can’t afford it or want to ignore its potential, DONT BUY IT. Quit bitching about what you want or think you deserve.

When the car is on NoA with EAP is the car MORE efficient than Basic AP. Given I plan to trade up to a new tesla every 2 or 3 years so buying FSD is not financially worth it, I'll use the $199/mo subscription. EAP/FSD should transfer to new cars.

The companies working on Level 4 autonomous vehicles are required to provide yearly reports to the State of California detailing how often a human driver had to take over for the self-driving system. Tesla does not provide any reports, because Autopilot and Full Self-Driving are just _assisted driving systems_, not Level 4 Autonomous vehicles like Waymo and Cruise are working on. It's far from "one of the best in the industry" and the names of the functions are very deceiving.

I love what Elon has done so far but FSD is a mistake on so many levels. First of all most people enjoy piloting their vehicles. I know I do. FSD while amazing in concept is certainly not an essential feature. What is essential is range, charging time, affordability, reliability and performance (in that order). Tesla should be concentrating on extending their vehicle range. One thousand miles would be a nice target. Add the fact that Tesla is actually charging customers to beta test their software, punishing people who won't partake with longer waiting times and you have a lawsuit in the making. I give Elon all the credit in the world for reinventing the car industry as we know it but he's dead wrong on FSD. I would never put my life in the hands of a robot, I don't care how advanced it may be.

But it is not FULL SELF DRIVE! It’s an ongoing beta test and people are paying ten grand to fund development. Buy it for what it is now, not what it might be one day. Or better still, don’t buy it and just drive your own car.

I have standard autopilot only. I hate it's super sensitivity to bikes, it is absolutely crazy about bikes/motorcycles! And overtaking on the highway, it is way to hessitant, it will not accelerate until completely in the outer lane, so you have to press the accelerator to not disturb rear traffic! And there is no 'resume previous set speed' in CC if you do a turn or do a stopsign, quite annoying when driving in city areas! All other cars has 'resume' when disconnecting from CC briefly!

Some AP features are only available on cars with FSD. In particular "Stop light warning", "Stop sign warning", and "Blind spot monitoring". I just went out to my 2021 Model Y to make sure these weren't recently added to my AP-only car. I became aware of AP features that are only available to those who bought FSD a few months after I got my car. It had this great feature of chiming when I was sitting at a red light that turned green. Then after a software update this feature went away. I asked over at the Tesla Motors Club and was told this AP feature was only for cars with FSD. Tesla had mistakenly made it available on some AP-only cars but then fixed this mistake in an update.

My prediction we won’t truly see full self driving in our lifetime where you don’t need to pay attention. Otherwise like you said, its more stressful and you have to pay MORE attention now than you driving the car yourself. So for me, a big no for 7K, 10k, 12k for fsd. Even more so not worth it if it doesn’t transfer with the owner. But… tesla can do it because people still buy it

"In our lifetime". Not sure how old you are, but let's say that's 50 years. So you're saying in the time frame it took us to go from the first PC release in 1981, or then Nintendo NES (1983), until today, we can not get to L4 autonomy from what you can see FSD doing today? Would you like to bet some money on that?

Keep in mind the net present value of your cash. This is the concept that having cash in hand today is worth more than cash later because of what you can do with it in the meantime. Paying 7000 for full self-driving three years ago means that cash was tied up all three years

Good video. I have a Model 3P. I appreciate and take advantage of the baseline AutoPilot features; but cannot see a $12K investment in software that falls far short of its promise (or potential), The day of a 'robotaxi' that will allow true hands-off and minimal attention for point to point transportation is a ways off. I do admit I may take advantage of a monthly subscription to see what all the fuss is about.

Tesla is actually making it harder to want their car. How you gonna tell me, that a software patch that has to be downloaded and enabled is tied to only one car and I can't just take it to another tesla via the same method? You are increasing the price of a product that fundamentally, still isnt owned by me. Elon, please make this make sense. If I can buy the car, and then FSD separately, why can't take the FSD from one tesla to another tesla when I paid for it. Its the primary issue I am having with Telsa right now apart from the quality problems. Did I buy FSD, or did I buy a restricted season pass for cars? I still want to buy a Tesla, when I can afford it, and I like the FSD and auto pilot. But I am still annoyed by the practice. Edit: Some grammar fixes.
