.45 hardball is a pretty serious round. I’d say this would stop subsonic 9mm, all 380, all or nearly all .22. Plus whatever makes it through is going to be small, slower and worse at penetrating than the original. Meaning you could see light wounds from something like a 9mm 115g hp round. Outside of single use hyper expensive polyplasitic based armors all IV rated personal protection uses either layered ceramic based plates or AR500 steel-reinforced tramma plates. Both of which weigh a fuck ton and don't conform to the body particularly well due to the nature of the shapes and materials used, so your really only IV protected in the areas its covering, IE your vital organs. The TL;DR is any level of protection is better than none, and basically any civilian vehicle out there is just going to let ANY round rip right through them outside of maybe in places like the engine block / wheel barrels. 2a is much better than nothing.

@@_Stayss yep but just like with the cyber truck it would be a likewise marketing ploy. the cyber truck isnt being sold as being bullet proof. they are just pointing out "oh look, it can stop some bullets, isnt that cool?".

Level 2a armor was fairly common for law enforcement for a while, but advancements have made it to where most LEOs will wear level 2 (at minimum or if concealment is prioritized) or level 3a armor (what you see most often these days). Level 2a armor is pretty much on track to go the way of level 1 armor at this point.

You're absolutely right! It stops bullets for most common low-powered handguns which account for about 90 % of all shootings. Most innocent bystanders get killed buy stray bullets and it would be interesting to see if it could stop a 7.62x39 at say 400 yards.

Define "bullets" Because subsonic cartridges are about 10% of the total amount of cartridges out there, not including the obsolete ones.

Except for the fact that its also been shown and independently tested to stop bigger rounds. By no means is it gonna protect the president but it shrugs off 9mm just fine, but you insinuate it wouldnt in this video

2A armor is old school police armor from the 90s. Soft armor really meant for handguns and buckshot, these days, 3A can do more in the same weight and size

Seems disingenuous to say the pistol ammunition is uncommon. Almost all .45 ACP loads are subsonic and they tested 115 grain in the glock and 147 grain 9mm in the PDW based off the velocities listed, both very common loadings. Seems like they use the “bulletproof” claim the same as the “autopilot” claim.

Tons of people sell IIA vests. They can be made a lot lighter and thinner than II and IIIA, and because of that, they can provide protection from more angles than those levels more comfortably.

From what I know iia armor is usually a secondary rating on spike and slash vests used when you’re more likely to encounter blades or improvised weapons, the threat of something like a handgun is low, but not zero
