Hear hear Doug! I am 80 and have been using it for just this reason. Between the two of us (FSD and me) we are quite good! I just upgraded to HW4 and have lost FSD for a few months until they catch up, and it feels awful. Autopilot is NOT FSD by a long stretch. The new sensors in HW4 are excellent! The vision system calibrated itself on the drive home, and now shows how close things are 360 degrees around the car! It is yet too conservative, leaving a wider margin than ultrasound, but that will improve.

I use FSD every day, almost the whole time I'm in my car. I was heading to dinner with a friend and wanted to show it off, so I turned it on. First thing it does is swerve onto the wrong side of the street and then swing wildly back to the correct side. FSD is amazing 95% of the time, and 5% bonehead moves. For Tesla to claim a GTP moment, they need the bonehead moves to 0%. That doesn't mean perfect, just no egregious mistakes.

Living in Florida, we have millions of snow birds that come down for the winter every year. Most in their 70's, 80's, and 90's. Many who should have stopped driving years ago. I am not kidding when I say that everyone knows someone who was almost run over or was run over on a sidewalk, a parking lot, backed into by someone who could not turn there head to see if anyone was coming. We have had people run over sitting at a bus stop. This could truly save hundreds of lives every winter in this state.

Any software engineer can tell you, the last 5% takes 95% of the time to complete. You’re completely underestimating how long it will take to get to 99.9% reliability, which is really when mass adoption will actually happen. The chatGPT moment for Self driving will happen a lot later than AI like chatGPT because chatGPT makes massive errors but it doesn’t kill anyone (at least not directly), so it’s adoption was a lot faster. Nice video though. Keep up the good work for raising awareness for amazing progress we are making on the self driving front.

I would like to see tests of FSD in NY or more complex areas of Los Angeles. I live in LA, and FSD is constantly making bad lane choices. One example is some streets have parking in the right lane for certain hours of the day, but FSD disregards this and will sometimes choose the right lane when there are parked cars in its chosen driving path. Other times, FSD doesn't have the best awareness of left/right turn only lanes. I think FSD works well in some situations, but needs a TON of improvement in more complex situations.

While I watched carefully where the deer came from and was able to continue, the second deer (that is nearly always there) landed on the hood of the car behind me as that driver paid attention to where the 1st deer went. Nice video, however, my driving experience with FSD is drastically different. I am on version 11.3.6, and I selected "Assertive" in the settings. It went off lane when entering an exit, creeps up so slow at Stop signs, speeds up and slows down unpredictably. Haven't been able to go more than 5 mins without driver intervention on the inside road. I sure hope 11.4.6 is a big improvement.

Im on 11.3.6 as well and I’m impatiently waiting for 11.4.6. I’ve found it works better if you enable “assertive” with minimal lane changes. That’s just from my experience.

@@jjdiaz5304 When I first started getting 11.4 builds, my FSD improved quite a bit. But in my experience, 11.4.4 made things a bit worse, while still being better than the 11.3 builds. I haven't been offered the 11.4.6 update yet. For a while, I was receiving updates within a week of KZitemrs getting the update, but 11.4.6 has been taking its time. I do have to do the minimal lane change thing, but mostly to avoid it switching into commuter lanes. The SF Bay Area very recently greatly extended the hours for commuter lanes and I guess my Tesla isn't reading the signs. My second biggest issue is that it struggles to get into short exit lanes. And, to get to my office there is a place where I have cross three lanes of through traffic to get into a double left-hand turn lane, all within about 200 feet, which the car just isn't capable of. It does still slow down a bit unexpectedly sometimes, though not as aggressively as it used to.

It seems my model 3 sees traffic kinda late, is that normal? I mean when a car passes by, the brake happens about half a second later.

Yes! I fully agree. People are. MORE attentive with FSD…. And drive is more enjoyable! Not that I don’t love driving too…. But even if we save 1 life by FSD, is that worth it? Thanks for all your work here!

Just curious to know, does it beep the horn if a car is cutting in its path too close and suddenly?

Not sure why your results are always better than what I am experiencing here in LA. Any thoughts??

Love the thought provoking commentary. The comparison to the ChatGPT public awareness “moment” should not be ignored by TSLA investors… look at how the world is rushing to invest in AI… we’re already in!

we can't guess how much of fsd is already baked into TSLA stock price. You don't know , I don't know etc. But it will get closer to NVDA's PE soon (ish)

Very akin to the fomo frontrunning of tech stocks in 1999. Mega revenue yet to come at some time, don’t miss out!! Should have invested in 2003.

I have 11.4.4 on a 2020 X. How do you get it to drive without you frigging the steering wheel every 15 sec? Are you on an employees-only build? I don't frequent this forum (loads and loads of noise!) so sorry if this has been asked a thousand times before.

Thank you for this video. I was never a Tesla fan but I have been researching Tesla for my 83 year old dad. He ran a red light and crashed last year because he didn't see the light. Can I buy the model 6 with FSD now and use it?

Excellent video, as usual! Got a question for you, Omar - we just did the upgrade of our 2021 Model Y with FSD and HW3 to a new Model Y with FSD and HW4 (taking advantage of the one-time ability to transfer your FSD) - and as you know, you don't get FSD with HW4 (yet) - so, any idea when we'll likely get a software update where FSD works with HW4? In the meantime, the latest autopilot actually does a decent job - but we really miss having FSD since it's used almost 100% of the time we do any drives ... maybe you can poke Elon about a rough approximation for those of us with the newer HW4 as to when we'll get our FSD back again - and thank you in advance!

It's much harder here in Europe, where the streets are much smaller and curvier. I have high hopes in Dojo and somehow expect that it could be able to learn my commute.

You're right about the steering wheel nag. Several times it has disengaged because I was trying to stop the nag, which made the car turn unexpectedly.

You know you can just turn the volume wheel or speed wheel, instead of “nagging” the wheel. I don’t nag it.
