Thanks. You gave me the courage to do my own Y. I had my wife’s done professionally and its certainly much better than mine. I got my ppf from tesbros who are super supportive. I worked on the smaller items first and worked my way up to the hardest which for me was the bumper. I only did the front of the car and the side mirrors and trunk area. I took some notes for me to describe the journey … yes i did the bumper twice as it’s easy to remove the ppf and redo. Thanks again By the way tesbros has a bunch of installation videos for all the individual items. They are very good to watch.

I bulk installed XPEL stealth on my Model Y. Took the bumpers and trim off to fully wrap each panel. Took me way longer than I was expecting but a full car wrap in the Bay Area is too rich for my blood. For the bubbles, I found the smallest size syringe works great! Pull the plunger out of it and poke the bubble from the side. Then use your finger to push the air towards the syringe. A little heat after and you can’t tell it was even there!

@@ericxu2993 I had the PPF put on first and then had the ceramic coating afterwards. So far, working out fine and I have noticed my car has a more distinct shine whem comparing to cars that have not had the ceramic coating.

I did it myself, no way on earth am I paying 4K-10k for a PPF film install. I’m an aesthetic nurse with an attention to detail. I have 30g needles, syringes and insulin syringes that came in handy . I used LED magnifying loupes to inspect my work . It is not perfect but I managed to fix it. It was laborious but well worth it in the end

I watched both your videos on PPF- the one using 3M and this one on Expel. Why is the Expel kit so much more expensive than the 3M pro series? Expel also doesn’t give you the front hood and bumper/fender as one full kit. The price makes it harder for me to decide going DIY or getting a shop to do it. Thanks for the videos. You have been very helpful in navigating through our Tesla purchase.

Nice one It looks like such a PITA but I'd really like to get myself comfortable with doing it myself. I have a couple cars and do a lot of highway miles so it would be nice to get this process down. Who knows maybe someday with enough practice do a complete color change on a car. I don't know if I have the temperament though I picture myself balling it up and throwing it at the first sign of trouble. Imperfections would drive me nuts as well so there's that. By the way why a Canadian company?

We did full wrap on our M3. Would not do it again. If you live in an urban area and find you need to park your car on the street or in a parking garage from time to time, you will likely get some fender "taps" that could tear our wrap. Then you're stuck with figuring out how to remove it.

Hi, I just talked to Eric at Driveprotected, and he explained he switched away from XPEL to a PPF product called Defense+. Apparently XPEL was focusing on selling to professional installers. Is Defense+ a good PPF?

Yes this is right. I wrapped my model 3 all the way with defense plus and it installed really nice like Xpel. Same 10 year warranty and 8 mil thick. Very happy with it

But I wanted to let you know that after purchasing the PPF product from Drive Protect, I received an email from Canada Post a week later stating; “we have a problem with your package from Drive Protect and cannot deliver it.” So at this point, i have been trying to contact both Drive Protect and as well Canada Post. Haven’t heard back from either one, but it is Friday. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. Rob

Spent some time on the phone with Canada Post, and they are not delivering the product for reasons they cannot provide (stated it was perhaps a bad address???). So I reached out to Eric, and he immediately provided a refund to our account. I am pleased that I am receiving the refund, but so disappointed after a week of waiting for this to arrive to end up without a product. As you mentioned (BTG), "Eric was great to work with" and am glad that he came through for us. He has offered to help us with the install process if we use another product/vendor. Issues like this can happen with any order, so hope this is not a discouragement to anyone making a purchase with Drive Protected. I am not sure what I will do next, really wanted to use this product... jealous for all of you who have received it. It is a really great deal with the BTG discount. Guess I will be purchasing lots of extra touch-up paint if I can't find anything else:(

yep, I use slick solution to lay the material and move it around. Once I have it about where it needs to go, I spray tack on the corners to get it to stick tight.

Aside from the bumper, it doesn't seem too bad. But the bumper seems way too stressful to handle. I was planning on taking it to a professional installation for the bumper only and handle the rest myself and this video made me feel better about my decision. Props to you for taking on that bumper though!

I ordered using your code. Got front end for model y. Package arrived missing a squeegee and any instructions on mixing the solutions. Owner said he was out of squeegees so didn’t bother to include one. Seems shady for a product I just paid $800 for.

Yea, the XPEL dealers did not appreciate the volume of product being sold so they killed it. Defense + is not as well known and there are some differences, but the product is just as good, and includes the same 10 year warranty

What are the differences with defense +? I saw in another comment that it looked like they didn't cut out the circles for the parking sensors which seems counterintuitive since their own installation video comments that they are really important for helping to line up the whole piece and make the rest of the installation better. When you say they weren't happy with the volume does that mean they were selling too much of it or not enough? Do you mean XPEL doesn't sell their product to any dealers anymore?

Yes. Alcohol solution will make it stick in place. The slip allows the film to move around. You squeegee the slip solution out of it and and sticks when dry

Drive protected shop no longer sells XPEL. I got the following message from them: "In January (2022) we switched to our own brand of film called, Defense+. Its basically the exact same thing as XPEL, except our film has a hydrophobic top coat which makes the film easier to clean." What do you think BTG? Have they been around long enough to be trustworthy enough to honor the 10-year warranty? It's a lot of money to spend on an in house generic product with no brand reputation.

Xpel dealers were not happy about the volume of product people were buying and were able to put an end to DIY kits. The defense plus brand is a good product and meets the Xpel specs. Our model 3 has defense plus going on the whole car and I’m not thinking twice about it. It’s unfortunate, but that is what happened.

No you’re missing his point. Nobody cares about you’re point because you didn’t make a video explaining it. You’re on his video and he explains in detail his argument and it makes complete sense for someone who’s not a child. He clearly explains it is an easy process and you will screw up but if you’re not a perfectionist it looks and performs really well for paying 25% the cost of a professional if you just want to put in some time. He obviously is someone who has the time and likes to work on his cars. If you are not into working on your car or you’re not someone who can handle adding some elbow grease or needs it to be perfect or has absurd amounts of money than this isn’t for you. Come on man, you can think a little deeper and actually listen to what someone is saying if you’re going to spend 10+ minutes wasting your precious time watching his video
