But before talking about that, let’s discuss the types of batteries that were previously and are currently used in the Model Y. This will make it easier to compare when we talk about the new battery technology.
There are at least three different kinds of batteries that the Model Y uses. Those manufactured in Germany feature BYD Blade batteries, renowned for their impressive charging efficiency. Some users in Germany have tested this car and shared interesting statistics. Specifically, the Tesla Model Y equipped with a BYD battery can maintain a charging power of 170 kilowatts, enabling it to charge from 11% to 71% in just 15 minutes.

In comparison to the base model of the Model Y manufactured in China, which is outfitted with a CATL battery, the charging prowess of the BYD Blade battery-equipped Model Y surpasses it, as illustrated in the following graph. It can maintain the peak charging rate of 170 kilowatts, as mentioned earlier, up to a 50% state of charge. However, the CATL battery pack boasts a larger capacity, at 60 kilowatt-hours compared to the 55 kilowatt-hours provided by the Blade battery. Consequently, it can deliver a range of 455 kilometers (282 miles), surpassing the Blade battery's range by 15 kilometers (9 miles).
