Your review was professional and transparent. I think my Model 3 was one of my best decisions in my 55 years of driving. My car has saved several bicycle riders who were saved by the sensors as they ran stop signs or shot into the street doing 30-40 MPH DOWN a hill where the driver could not respond in time saving them from injury or worse. Looking forward to future updates and love the fact that it sees stop lights and stop signs.

@@aslye In 2019, about 73% of Kentucky's electricity net generation was coal-fired; 20% was natural gas; 0.5% was biomass(wood basically). So charging EVs in Kentucky is pretty dirt. 93,5% of the electricity the you use to charge your car generates a lot of pollution. Adding all the pollution of the battery production, it's not really a green car.
@dcle944

@@Brandon_letsgo It’s actually not. The problem with these coal power plants is that they can’t adjust to demand well. So at night they have plenty of excess power. Electric cars simply soak up excess power when you charge at night, which also has the cheapest rate. That’s the cleanest of the clean energy. It’s like eating leftover food at restaurants before they’re going to throw the food away.

Just an incredibly well designed and executed product overall, truly standing in a class of its own compared all other automakers. A Tesla feature that reviewers never point out is the voice controls. Almost all the menu selections are available by voice: “show rear camera” “fold mirrors” “wipers on” “set fan speed to 6” “close rear camera” “unfold mirrors” “set temperature to 72” etc.. The single center screen is not an inconvenience. Voice commands are more convenient than rows of mechanical buttons!

I love it! I test drove the Model Y AWD with FSD on July 16th. I liked it so much, I ordered one that same day. I'm getting the Long Range AWD with FSD in Pearl White, the standard 18" wheels and the tow package. On June 30th, I put in a reservation for a Cybertruck AWD, 300 mile range with FSD. Since the factory isn't built yet that's going to produce the Cybertruck, and the fact that I'm currently last in queue on the list, I feel it's going to be a good 3 to 4 years before it's ready for me. So, the Model Y was ordered. I'm very tired of the maintenance on my ICE car and feeding it Dino Juice. And I checked on my insurance and found that it won't go up that much. I hope Tesla goes nation wide with their insurance soon. Great episode! Thanks!!

Douglas Martyn - I, too, am having difficulties getting into and out of my Model 3. I’m 73 years old and have bad knees, so getting in and out can at times cause problems. I need to make a switch from the 3 to a Y but the cost would be too much for me at this time. When I ordered this 3, Which I picked up in December, I was told it would be next fall before I could get one and my everyday car at the time was just about to give out completely. So as much as I would like to purchase the Model Y, I’m just not going to be able to do it.
@douglasmartyn
4 жыл бұрын
Dona Linder for me Dona getting out can be a struggle and one thing I got wrong initially was the setting I had the ‘easy entry easy exit’ set at. I initially set the seat as far back as I could get it to go but that restricted the height the seat would go to. I have changed that to get as near max height as it will go and then put it back till it starts to auto lower; that extra inch or so height helps me a lot. Role on the Y that extra height will be great for entry and exit and I prefer a high driving position anyway.

Just got my model y over the weekend and I definitely have to agree about the doors. You have to give a good amount of force to close them. My entire family has to open multiple times to close. I could only imagine how hard they would be to close without the window vent feature when you open and shut the door and it cracks window for you to lessen cabin pressure. Great vehicle all around and nothing that would prevent me from buying another.

Great review. I’ve had a Model 3 since 2018 and as much as I like the car, the lack of blind spot monitoring on the side mirrors is ridiculous for such a technically advanced car. My Hyundai Elantra, which is much cheaper, has better blind spot monitoring. The Tesla’s screen will glow red on the left or righ lane as a substitute, but it only works when you initiate the turn signal and are ready to make your lange change. It does not give you advanced warning of a car on your side as side-view mirror detection would solve.

BTW, if you want a real opinion on Tesla, ask an actual Tesla owner, don't listen to the internet trolls. Just stop by a Tesla charging location. Every Tesla owner I have ever talked to loves their Tesla even they had some issues. And most of those people owned luxury cars before. There is no going back to ICE ever for any of them. If another manufacturer comes up with a better EV, they would definitely consider it. There is no Tesla cult. It's just that Tesla makes the best EVs right now hands down. That may change.

And that's why it's a cult. Everybody just drinks the Kool-Aid, and despite some unacceptable quality and build issues (especially considering the price) nobody is willing to criticize the company and dear leader Elon. @@ganymede3141 No, it's just that once you drive a compelling EV there is no going back to ICE. Sort of like when smartphones came out there is no going back to flip phones. And I guarantee you have not owned either a Taycan or a Tesla..
@ganymede3141
4 жыл бұрын
@@bartl.7390 Actually, you can't guarantee that because you have no idea what my experience with Tesla is. Of course I don't own a Taycan. It just came out, and it's well over $100k. Spending that much money on a car is simply foolish. But back in 2016 I had a reservation for a Model 3. Then as a few coworkers of mine started getting theirs, I had an opportunity to drive them and get a closer look. I was appalled by the build quality, shoddy paint coverage, and just overall delivered goods for a $60k car. I canceled my order soon after. My expectations for a $60K car were higher than 90's Hyundai build quality. Since then, I had driven Model S-es in various trims, Model X and Model 3 Performance. I had taken them on roadtrips, and found the lack of practicality very limiting. Could only stick to major interstates, and could not go off the beaten path in a national park or take the scenic routes, because the scenic routes had no chargers anywhere to be found. I also found that the real life range was far off the advertised EPA range. For a car advertised at a 310 mile range, I was getting at best 240 cruising at 75 mph. And then, to recharge, it took anywhere from an hour to 1.5 hours. Explaining why we had to wait and be bored to tears for well over an hour to my 3 passengers a few times a day further highlighted the frustration of impracticality. Yes, there are V3 Superchargers out there that can charge at a reasonable rate, but all of the ones along my route would top out at 50 KW. It was painfully slow, when in an ICE car I could get almost double the range (450 miles per tank vs 250 miles per charge) and fuel up in 5 minutes vs an hour and a half. Wasting my vacation time at a Supercharger station was not my or my passenger's idea of fun, and we couldn't eat an hour lunch every 3 hours. The acceleration was great, but real life range didn't come anywhere close to advertised EPA range. Coupled with long charge wait times, from personal experience I became convinced that a BEV car is not practical enough for me to be my one and only vehicle. It would be great for daily commutes where I could charge it at home, but for weekend getaways I would still have to keep an ICE car around for practicality. That's a no go for me. The day that a BEV can have a real range of 400 miles and not just as a fantasy number on paper, and be able to get a full charge in the same amount of time it takes to fuel an ICE car (about 5 min) is the day that a BEV car will be appealing to me.

You seem to be the best videographer, narrator, scriptwriter, plus your amazing Tesla knowledge and experience! Outstanding video! I really want one of these cars. BUT... I want to know about the performance of this car IN THE SNOW compared to SUVs like Toyota Land Cruiser and Jeep which are clearly raised higher off the ground and might accommodate snowy conditions better than the Y. I will be living soon in North Idaho! Their winters are long. While I would LOVE to own a Y with everything Tesla provides, I may end up with an old fashioned piston-pusher just for its handling in the snow. So PLEASE make a video of your experience in snowy environments. That would be a great supplement! Thanks for making this one!

Hey Andy, I'll be taking delivery of my Model Y in just over a week- the same midnight silver metallic you review in the video, though not the performance. I'd been humming and hawing on getting a Tesla since 2016, when I first made my choice to go fully electric. I went back and forth a number of times, and as recently as early March was convinced I'd be getting a Rav4 Prime as it seemed a much-more economical choice. When the pricing was finally announced (within CAD$10 of a Model Y!!!), I knew I'd regret not getting the Tesla for many of the reasons you mentioned. Every BEV contender I'd been tracking since 2016- from Volkswagen to Byton to Ford- ended up as wishful thinking vaporware, who all overpromised and underdelivered. Tesla seems to be doing the opposite. Key to their success seems is keeping all of their software in-house, which gives them the flexibility to deliver such an outstanding product and not sacrificing quality to put a few extra dollars in their pockets. Everyone else will be playing catch-up for some time to come.

@TheSoroLP

Yeah no, the rear visibility on the Model 3 is just as bad as the Y. If you're in reverse you wanna watch through your rear-camera-screen like 99% of the time.
@joantonio6331
4 жыл бұрын
@@TheSoroLP I test driven the model Y and the rear visibility is bad but not as bad as people try to make it seem. The side mirrors are big enough. The rear visibility on the model 3 is way better. Now for backing up... Even if the car has the world best visibility, if you have a camera as good as the tesla ones, just use it, the on screen track will tell you exactly where you are heading. I reverse parked the model Y without any peoblem, even better than with my car since I used the camera while with my car I have to turn and look back One thing that stay on my mind... I test driven the long range model Y and the acceleration... The best way to describe this is like being on a roller coaster, the non stop acceleration and the instant torque give you the exact same feeling. My 6 year old son was all joy everytime I floored the accelerator

Proper adjustment of the sideview mirrors will eliminate the blind spots. Here are the directions: For drivers side put the left side of your head to the window, adjust the dirvers side mirror so you can just barely see the left side of the car in the mirror (at just the right most edge of the mirror). For the passenger side, lean over the center console, adjust the passenger side mirror so you can just barely see the right side of the car in the mirror (at just the left most edge of the mirror). As cars are disappearing from the rear view mirror they appear in the side view mirror, as they are disappearing from the side view mirror they will be visible from the window.

I need to have some fun in my last few years, so since I can't travel abroad, I'll settle for the U.S., traveling in a white AWD Model Y to be purchased next June. But I may end up selling it for a Cybertruck or if I don't like the feel of driving the Cybertruck, I'll sell the AWD white Model Y and get a red one with white seats and FSD. If I do that it will have to have a partial PPF since I'll be keeping it until death do us part.

I'm glad the Model 3 ended up getting all the stuff that was new for the Model Y. Powered trunk, Octovalve, interior/exterior improvements, etc. Since the 3 got its refresh, they are practically the same car, with the differences being style and interior (the Y does have more interior room and a 7 seat option). The Model 3 still has plenty of interior room, but if you need the 7 seat option, the Y is the only choice (it wouldnt be possible to put the back seats in a Model 3 due to the trunk being in the way).

Excellent review. You covered all the bases. Like you I bought a Model 3 over 2 years ago and will never own an ICE car again. Once you've experienced a Tesla there is no turning back. I wish they had started with the Model Y first though for their more affordable options. I'm buying a fold-able ebike, the Rad Mini 4, and I doubt if it will fit in the Model 3's trunk. I may have to wait for easy transport of it with my Cybertruck next year. Keep up the good reviews Andy.
