imagine this on an actual cruise ship I'm going to use the costa Concordia as a reference so your in your cabin right then all the sudden you hear large groaning noises from the ships hull and the power goes out and the backup generators come on and the captain announces on the speakers that "we have struck a rock and we are currently investigating please remain calm" as you make your way up the hallways and stairs they start becoming crowded because the people panicking not knowing what to do and the confused people. as you make your way to the lifeboat deck. the crew start telling you everyone "we have to wait for captain orders" as the ship starts listing ever so slightly the captain orders on the speakers "this situation has now turned into a ship emergency everybody to the life boats" the crew start deploying the "Marine-Evacuation-System" as seen in the video. as the crew start deploying the list gets stronger eventually it starts getting hard to stand on the deck and stuff in cabins and kitchens and dining rooms start falling. the slide starts getting hard to use now with half of the raft full the slide cannot be used anymore

That is why evacuation is normally undertaken earlier then later on cruise ships. We have got all passengers off before only to recover the situation with the engines on the coast and have them rembark again. These MES systems compliment the tenders on board. Because you must have enough evacuation for all passengers on both sides, many cruise ships before relied on davit launched liferafts to make up the numbers, much worse then MES.

No way in hell your getting on that thing in a timely manner! Imagine your on the Costa Concordia its a solid black night the ship is listing at 30 degrees and passengers are panicking. Do you trust this thing. if there's a storm every ones dead.

the ship has water tight doors to close it to slow down the sinking ship i think the purpose of the raft is to use when the ship is not working or run out fuel

Well, if you initiate the evacuation to the right momend and dont wait a few hours to safe your pride then it should be not a problem to get everyone on this.

@@MikeMaris yes, but you can't have lifeboats on a ship and expect it to be fine, they take up too much place and to have a compact system that is cheaper and takes much less space and it houses alot more people than lifeboats do.

@@andreaskavak2364 I don't think this system is any more compact considering how its already using normal inflatable lifeboats. Also creating that enitre rig to hold and deploy everything takes up more space that just having holders for the same lifeboats. I believe this idea was more to have the slide for people. Since people won't have to jump into water which can cause hypothermia depending on conditions. Also this could be more beneficial for the elderly or people with disabilities to more safely transport them down. I like new ideas but its just many other problems come up with this design as so many other people have pointed out. But I hope these guys take the criticisms and hopefully come up with a better system that can save lives one day Also sorry for writing so much lol

In my opinion those VIKING MES are trash. In Germany produced MES e.g. from ALBE Engineering (located in Hamburg) are more efficient and have a higher evacuation rate, the systems as well adjust to the design of the vessels/oil rigs. At last they are less expansive, so you get more for less money.
