Hey everyone. I’m still alive and doing great. After 17 years at the show it was time to move on. I’m working with some friends at Boost Addicts in middle Tn building engines and doing performance work. I do not plan on doing a YT Channel or being in front of a camera. Unless something big comes along. With family being priority, I am digging the slower pace of life. No more long drives to work and no more corporate BS. I greatly appreciate all of you long time fans and if you see me out come say hello. LT is doing a great job with this channel and he is the real deal. Keep up the great work LT.

An exhaust pressure wave creates a drone when the engine's sound matches the exhaust note. This pressure wave results in vibration throughout the vehicle that creates the exhaust drone. You can do several different things (shy of changing the muffler) to reduce or eliminate drone. First, as you are planning, extend the exhaust pipe by 3 to 4 feet should help. Lengthening the pipes will change the frequency of the sound. You can also change the diameter of your exhaust pipes since this will greatly change the frequency of the vibration (just like a pipe organ). You might try various after-the-muffler tailpipe diameters. You might try 4”, then 3.5” and even 3” since each of these will support enough exhaust flow for your current HP levels. If those do not help, look into something called a Helmholtz Resonator (these are not the same as “regular” resonators). Helmholtz Resonators work by being open to the exhaust before the muffler, 1/4 of the length as long as one of the resonant sound waves. The sound wave is then reflected back into the exhaust at 1/2 wavelength, perfectly out of sync with the wavelength that's coming after it, thereby canceling it out. This is essentially the same principle as noise-canceling headphones. The length of these pipes determines what frequency they will cancel out. These resonators have proven to work, and are worth a shot.

Old carburetor engines good timing start point 34 deg btdc. LS series engines ttl timing 28-30 degrees. When tuning for the cam changing timing table as well as air/fuel volumetric efficiency tables map maf etc helps reduce load up searching and surge by adding a few degrees timing in the idle to 1200 rpm region of timing tables.

@@GMT400Chevy sigh. No it won't. There is still 70% torque management in the entire table, the speed of the shifts does not hurt anything, in fact creates less wear, and the 25% increase in line pressure will also help the trans live. Understanding what torque management is, and how to manipulate it to your needs is how you make transmissions live. I have a Silverado with a built 4L80e behind a turbo 6.0 l in a regular cab short bed, truck makes a significant amount of sauce. And it still has torque management. I'm not new at this.
@GMT400Chevy

@@thatgreenrcsb I'm aware how torque management works, doesn't matter what you do tune wise that transmission is bone stock, and that 4.8 is making more then it did originally. It's on borrowed time. @Matt_Sanford

The trans needs a Corvette servo. LT already has one on the shelf. I already mentioned to him about the lazy 1-2 shift. At as high as we are shifting it, it needs more mechanical hold. That trans couldn’t take any less torque management in its current state.

You're going to keep having the same problem over and over with the wideband... it's not defective it's just what it is... they wear out. I always keep another one on hand. I buy them two at a time. I use one every six months to a year... cost of having a wide-band. It's not as bad with the LSU 4.2 sensor. they seem to last longer but they're not as accurate. the LSU 4.9 is a much better sensor but nothing's perfect. the more accurate something is usually the more sensitive it is. Go research how wideband work and you'll understand. They wear out that's why you have to recalibrate them. If they heat up too quickly or cool off too fast... if they're under too rich of conditions or used with trick fuel... they wear out even faster. It doesn't matter what controller it's attached to... they all have the same problem but Innovative probably has the most problems out of all of them. Aem probably has the least. You sound like such a noob defective wideband. You mean your wideband took a s*** like you were expecting it to. Lol I recently tried a new brand there are 56 Bucks a sensor off of Amazon. they're holding on strong they've been running fairly rich and they're holding there calibration... so that's a good sign. Also inside of the pipe you want them in between 10 and 2 o'clock. if they're outside of that zone moisture will get inside of them and they will break even faster. And never use leaded fuel with them... they almost break instantly they hate leaded fuel.

Why didn’t you use the dyno for tuning the truck? Steady state tuning on a Eddy current dyno can do wonders. When you disable MAF you need to copy high octane spark table to low octane table.
@Matt_Sanford
2 жыл бұрын
Fortunately I already had a VE table that I had dialed in while steady state on a dyno for his combo, from a similar build that I had tuned. All I had to do was scale it for his Baro (87kpa) and then he loaded it in. I wouldn’t have had to scale it if the Gen 3 ecm used PRatio. He double checked it and I was within a few percent everywhere minus where it appears he is dropping fuel pressure slightly up top. We quickly resolved that and then enabled the MAF and my MAF transfer data was also basically spot on right off the rip. I definitely agree that dialing in while steady state on a good dyno is always best.

Turndowns always make for a bunch of exhaust resonance. I found that angling the turn Downs out and pointing them at the rear tires cuts down on the resonance quite a bit. But not as good as a full tailpipe

Nice work Matt. Takes a real man to admit he needs help. That’s when you know he’s the best.

Great video man this actually helped me a lot it’s good to hear from a learner rather than a professional so you can actually wrap your head around the whole thing 😂 great job

I've read (no personal experience so take with a grain of salt) about Bosch sensors not grooving with stock gm computers + LS engines on occasion.. evidently in f-body Camaros they can cause false-lean readings & bad idle quality among other things. I went with Delphi units.

The stock ECU isn't receiving any information from the wideband sensor. That is an additional sensor used in hp tuners to adjust fueling outside of stoich

I'm currently doing almost the same thing. Except it's a 5.3, and an '08 (so gen IV). But similar cam, LT's, etc. Question (for you, or anyone else!). When you're key on, engine off, what MAP reading are you getting? I'm at about 3000 ft above sea level, and from what I'm seeing it should be around 99.5kpa. But I'm only seeing 90. ??

@@LawrenceTolman - Thanks LT! with 200K miles on this (well, the body - not much else has that!) I've been going on a while-I'm-there replace it mission as of late... and it's getting to be a bit much! So chucking a new MAP sensor at it that it didn't need, well.... :)
