the 15 is nice for the farm. You drive like a normal 10 speed but have the deep reduction in the bottom 5 for that extra power in the field. Deep for the 1st 5. hit the slitter, down shift to 4 (this is actually up shifting a 15) then 5-6-7 etc.

She's gonna bark!! I'm building the Stephen King movie truck from Maximum Overdrive - Green Goblin Truck. It was a mid 70's Star with a Kenworth sleeper and 8v71 Detroit. @auaiao9 Well it's not hard to drive with stick. I honestly prefer the 10 spd.+. The hardest vehicles for me to shift are 5 spd trucks and cars. Cuz u have to use the clutch. On a 10 spd.( ford 9000, freightliner) are easy. Te 13,15,18 are just as easy cuz the only difference are that u can split gears. The Volvo, international(not shown) and westernstar are easy as long ad u know the pattern. Sorry for my small rant lol
@sledheadchris
13 жыл бұрын
@auaiao9 It is practice... I am just learning how to double clutch.. I never really use it but if I want to get me class 1 I have to know how. I just read the gear picture like I show to see what the gears are. Just get the gears in my head and I am off.. It's just when we haul bales it will be hard. Cuz thewesterstar is different from the freightliner. And one person loads and we switch half way then I unload. We switch trucks.. So that will be hard haha
@sledheadchris
13 жыл бұрын
@auaiao9 I drive 5 spd more than the trucks. It just the clutch throws me off sometime.. And the gears are closer. So I throw it into wrong gear sometimes haha. But ya. I have been driving 5 spd since I was 8 and then drove the Ford 9000 down the alley and in pens when I was 9. It is super easy to catch on. And I never use clutch. Unless it 5 spd. But the green gmc is 5 n 2 I believe... I never drove that on so I'll see how that is mayb e haha....

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the fan knocking around in there. To me though, it sounds like the lifters in the block more than the fan itself. I have a 1993 and a 1994 jeep grand cherokees both have their original inline 6 engine. Normal days, the lifters knock but when the engines are cold as hell; they whine, rattle, and knock like the earth is gonna fall apart for a few seconds, then mellows out some even though both girls high idle.

You're right. I haven't seen the last evolution, but my "badmouthing" was to counter the message of mr Romer. I'm well aware of the fact that the Paccar engines in for instance DAF, Kenworth and Peterbild are near identical. Also the use of modern materials is similar. The thing is: the "pre-plastic trucks" are all but gone here due to fuel costs, and according to mr Romer in the US they're still in use.
@Stoker58

I don't know what cyrus romer (probably something ignorant and stupid) but our trucks aren't "stone age" granted we have some pretty old trucks crisscrossing the country, still its because they're reliable, we take care of them, and as previously mentioned our fuel prices are much lower. Our roads have some pretty harsh conditions not everywhere of course and as you've probably seen their are American trucks out on the ice roads fighting 13% grades up Annagans Pass along with US style Volvos
@G33RTJEH
11 жыл бұрын
Actually, If you exclude the acquisitions from American companies over here, you'll find a market share of about 0.3%. The other way around is the same deal: There is no dealer network, so no sane trucker will depend on a foreign product. The American trucks running here are mostly "show-trucks". Furthermore: the difference in regulations and the very chauvinistic attitude prevent mixing the market share...

You should not leak down more than 10 PSI in in a 24 hour time span in a brand new air brake system with no known leaks. If you start at 120 PSI when you shut the truck off and 12 hours later you are at 0 you need to find the air leaks in the system. Although since this is a on/off highway tractor and I doubt he does long haul, he could get in serious trouble with DOT if they decided to have a spin with him at a weigh station.

The knocking 'sound' is commonly known over here in little New Zealand as 'piston slap'. It is effectively the sound of a piston 'slapping' against the wall of the cylinder bore as it moves up and down from pre-ignition in the expansion chamber of the cylinder head due to as you have stated expansion chamber. Most later model trucks have what is also known as 'hot-start' systems as part of their engine start management inside the expansion chamber before the engine is cranked.

@3rdfarmer86
12 жыл бұрын
The knocking is because when you tried to start it up, it dumped fuel into the cylinders like usual but the cylinder was too cold for it to ignite to when it does, it tries to push the crankshaft faster but it can't because of the rest of the cylinders are keeping it at that RPM so all it does is make a popping or knocking noise
@inilledra
12 жыл бұрын
Not really. As long as you have the correct amount of oil on the stick, the proper amount of air in the tanks and the engine is running smooth you would be good to go. If you are doing a cold start and the air tanks are empty, you are going to be sitting anyway. Your main goal is to not over rev the engine while you are building up your air preasure.

@sledheadchris You're not ranting at all and it's easy for you to say it's not a big deal. I drive a 5 speed and I have no trouble with it. It's funny you would think an 18 wheeler is easier than a regular vehicle, maybe it's because you're used to them.
