One of the things I love about James Murphy is that he WILL LEARN the original solo and add just a few distinct little bits that are his own. He has that kind of level of respect for the original composer. He also covered all of Skolnick's solos rather admirably to triumphantly. He is truly the most underrated guitarist in thrash/metal.

I am a die hard Uli Roth fan . This is the best cover of this song I have ever heard . He puts yngwies cover of the song to shame. And he's not relying on distortion and overdrive like yngwie does either, clean like Uli . New respect for this band

Resounding an reinforced respect for this band. Heard this for the first time in my car on the way to work. Ancient Scorps with Uli probably the best to ever do it fo me, also a fan of Testament since the 80's. And Yngwie before all of them in fact. Still i winced at every key moment.prior to every key moment in this tune, like how are they going to pull this next part off, well epically apparently. Uli is god.

@andyconnrock
7 ай бұрын
@@YngtchieMusic I agree. Got some serious distortion. However, I think what @birddog8140 meant was that, even though this cover is very distorted, Yngwie's cover wasn't up to snuff, so to speak. Testament's guitarists played it cleaner (not in amp tone, but how good they played it) Playing something "clean" in this context (correct me if I am wrong) means playing it well and with good technique.

I don't think that Alex was involved in the recording of this song. Alex left Testament in 1992, a couple years before the band recorded Low. James Murphy did a fantastic job here, but Alex Skolnick woulda turned those solos into something magical, for sure!!!!

@@JamesMurphyProducer James you killed it here. I'm a Testament & Skolnick fan but what you brought to the band on Low and Gathering really was amazing. With the musical landscape in flux in the mid 90s a move towards Death metal was clearly the way forward. Low was a good album but IMO it was derivative of AIC, White Zombie, etc at times and it sounded as though it was a struggle to fit your solos in a lot of the songs. Not that the solos were bad but I'm speaking in the context to the songs and what they needed. Now, The gathering is a totally different story. It is by far my favorite Testament album and you guys were firing on all cylinders. The seed was sown on Low and Demonic was an obvious next step. Adding Dave to group was essential, although I'm sure Gene would provide something similar since he has similar drumming grooves to Dave, I just think it just all clicked perfectly. Sorry for the rambling, I just love the Gathering and it is such a huge album for the band. I also have to say something about the Onslaught and Black Rivers Flow. Wow! Absolutely amazing sounding albums. I think the two Lazarus albums are easily some of best of the time and how BRF isn't spoken of in the same breath as Triviums Shogun is just wrong. The LAD guys were amazing. I was so saddened to hear of Ryan's death. There was soo very much to like about that band. I know you have had health issues and I truly hope you are doing well and are staying healthy. You are a truly amazing musician and producer. I too have health issues as I struggle with severe Crohn's disease for 25 years and I am in and out of the hospital quite a bit Your music with Testament and Lazarus are a lot of what gets me through the pain, motivates me when exhausted and inspires me after my countless surgeries. I know I'm not the only one who finds the determination from the riffage, meaningful lyrics, and brutal aggression. I can't play guitar anymore due to my CD effecting my wrists and hands but I play my air guitar and bang my head in my hospital bed! James, thank you so much for bringing me and my kids so much joy from the bottom of my heart. Stay safe and healthy.
