To be honest I'm always a bit baffled by kits like the second one. Like, it's basically just $20 for a candle, because there's no room for creativity. You just mix the two things they give you and pour, the end. Whereas the first kit at least gives you room for imagination and a more unique experience.
@masterbuilder4735

I think the first set is good for creativity, but the second set helps to master the technology of soy candles, it can be an entry point for people who want to try their hand at making candles on a larger scale
@trevor7520

Yeah, but.. the first kit didn't work :( Maybe the manufacturers of the second kit could also add a set of candle dyes though, for that creativity factor you mentioned. i think it'd be quite nice now that you mention it

I agree, but then I prefer paraffin candles over soy and I know that you have to play with it a bit while it burns, that's why I LIKE them, I have to play with 'em ;D Though I will say that I went ahead and stole the idea for a wick holder of a hole in a popsicle stick you can use as a fire starter instead of a metal bar that you have to clean. Also, she says she got it for $20 but that was probably Michael's sale for kits, because the online page she showed was ALL $40.

The paddywax kit with the refill idea is super fun! I will say, $20 for the refill seems pretty steep. I would personally probably order wicks and wax to refill the candle myself. However, getting the fragrances you want is a benefit of that.

I make my own candles and I also used to work at a paddywax candle making store and I can tell you a hairdryer can get just hot enough to smooth a candle top but you have to be very careful bc the amount of air flow is too powerful and can get wax everywhere. Heat guns have very little fan power that’s why they work better for candles!

If I'm going to buy a candle kit, I'm doing it for the fun of making the candles - not for how well it's going to work or smell. Ideally I'd be able to get both out of the experience, but the reality is that is usually not the case. That being said, I would NEVER buy the second kit because a) it only makes ONE candle and I think paying 20 bucks for one candle is ridiculous; and b) there is absolutely ZERO creativity involved in this kit. As for the first kit, I like the creativity factor of it, but the colors are not for me.

My friends and I got bamboozled by a paddywax shop last year. We went to do their candle making class and there was no real customization options (you picked the vessel your candle went in and one of their pre-blended scents, no colors, glitters, toppers, or mixing different scents to create your own) and there was basically no help from the “instructors”, there were just printed DIY instructions on the table and you had to flag down one of the instructors if you needed help. Also it was like $45 per person. Honestly ridiculous and I’ve been pissed at them as a company ever since.

national candle association says it's okay if you have a little bit of wax on the side of your candles, when the candle continues to burn the sides will melt right off as the flame is lower in the jar. So if you mean tunneling happens it is probably because the cure time, but I notice with a lot of candle kits leave that out because they want customers to have that instant satisfaction! I do also find it odd the sand kit didn't come with smaller wicks? What sand candle makers are doing now is offering small wicks and it would snuff itself out and then the person can just replace the snuffed wick with the used wax with another wick and keep the party going!
@CatsBreadBikes

I was wondering how you felt about paddywax candles! I submitted a recipe to them to be printed on a card that's included with a candle in a dish that can be baked in once the candle is done. I won, but they spelled my name wrong, and it says "Eric's gingerbread" now, instead of erica's 😡 so tbh i was hoping you didn't like their candle kit 😂 If anyone wants to check it out, it's the frankincense & palo santo scent that's in the small baking loaf
@CatsBreadBikes
10 ай бұрын
For real though, my unbiased opinion is that the scents aren't to my personal taste, but that's not their fault. Although i did experience a lot of tunneling, which meant a lot of wax didn't burn by the time the wicks were gone
