To check the intensity and cavitation of an ultrasonic bath, a foil test is recommended. In this test, a commercially available aluminium foil is perforated with ultrasound. Important: The test should be performed regularly and always under the same conditions.
The foil test (aluminium foil test) in accordance with IEC 886 should be carried out regularly (e.g. quarterly) when first commissioned and after an appropriate period of operation. The effect of ultrasonic baths is determined by the intensity and distribution of the cavitation typical for the process in the vibratory trough. During the foil test an inserted aluminium foil is ultrasonically irradiated with ultrasound and perforated or destroyed to a certain degree by cavitation.
In order to obtain a sufficiently strong cavitation, the interfacial tension of the water used for the foil test must also be reduced by means of surfactant-containing preparations.
We recommend the following ultrasonic preparations:
TICKOPUR R 33, TICKOPUR R 30, TICKOPUR TR 7, TICKOMED 1, STAMMOPUR R, STAMMOPUR DR 8
If none of these preparations is available, a neutral or mildly alkaline, non-aluminium destroying preparation should be used. The preparation must be approved by the manufacturer for use in an ultrasonic bath.
The films can be archived (scanned, photo, etc.) so that a comparison is possible at any time. The perforated or perforated surfaces of the foils should have approximately the same size and distribution - but they are never congruent. Only by means of regular film tests can a reliable process control be achieved, e.g. in the reprocessing of medical products.
For the reproducibility of the test results it is important that the test conditions are always the same:
Filling the vibratory trough up to the level mark
Temperature of the sounding liquid
Degassing time
Positioning of the frame
Film type (brand, thickness)
Public address time
Type and concentration of the ultrasonic preparation
A foil test frame is suitable for conducting a foil test. This depends on the size of the ultrasonic cleaner. Our wire frames are designed for a wide range of tub dimensions. Commercially available aluminium household foil is also required for the test.
