Rookie error - "Moved to the right, to allow the faster car to pass". Never move over to allow a car to pass, its their job to pass you. If you move, you become an unpredictable car on the track, and the faster driver will not know where you are going. At worst, there could be two cars behind - one you cant see - and they can and sometimes do pass on your left and right. It can be intimidating when faster cars are on the track, but you will not win any friends by moving over.

Grahame Burton: I was following the instructions we were given in the briefing. This was a track day not a test day and there were track day rules. Thankfully it was also priced like a track day. We were implicitly told to allow cars to overtake on the left and other than Gerrards, there was no overtaking around corners. Like most track days, passing is by consent, without indicators a wave through or move to the right was the best way to invite cars past. I totally agree with you if this was a test day and I would just drive the line and let everyone find their way past me.

The pass on the left with point by is a common rule for track days and limited testing days in the USA as well. As an experienced racer in FF and tin tops I find it a hard rule to remember when I’m in those situations!

The track day allowed anyone with a driving license on the track so there were experienced championship winning racers driving alongside someone who had never sat in a race car before. There were no collisions and to the everyone enjoyed the day. Personally, you can’t be a test day before a race weekend but these track days were cheap and it’s the perfect way to get some laps in.

What kind of bhp figures do you get from these? Sounding good 👍

Tom Donaldson I think UK Spec Kent engines are in the 105-108 hp range, US Spec Kent are in the 112-115 hp range. Richard should be able to confirm the UK figures for sure.

They say about 107bhp, that’s plenty for me! The engines were designed in the late 50s or early 60s and are a delight to work on. Unfortunately they have a ‘miles before overhaul’ of about 1200 miles so I budget about £120 a race weekend for the engine rebuild.
