I think the issue with the “woolen” look is that wool fabric isn’t necessarily big bulky thick winter jacket material. It certainly can be but wool can be very thin. For instance, high quality men’s suit pants (and jackets) are made of wool and they are very thin like any other trouser fabric and it may or may not have a sheen to it. The sheen does not make it poor quality it is just simply that type of fabric. So I think to compare “woolen” jackets you would need to specifically search for thick fabric, such as the first one. But just saying that a fabric has so much wool in it is actually too big of a range.

Exactly, a woolen men's suit does not have to look like tweed. It's more like what people in the City wear.

Great testing basics Lizzy...only thing that stresses me out is when you throw the beautiful jackets on the floor and then they’re covered in carpet fluff! I know it’s such a Mum thing to say, but felt the need!! 😬😀xx

What you think of the wool texture is most likely the acrylic. It’s a plastic fiber that can be manipulated in many many different ways, texture, color etc. However it’s not as durable, breathable or warm as wool and being made from oil it’s not an environmentally friendly fiber.

Re: your question about wool content = tweedy texture, it all depends how the wool and fibres are spun. There is "woolen" and "worsted" methods of spinning the yarns, wherein the woolen method lifts the fibres and makes them more fluffy and worsted method smooths them (in short) And then the ply of the yarn, and twists can also effect the weight of the fabric, and also the way the yarns are woven together into the fabric can effect the texture.... so lots of variables! So just looking at the content isn't an indicator of what it will feel like. This website has a good overview if you're interested: www.brooklyntweed.com/woolen-and-worsted-yarns/ I love the Raey one! I'm definitely going to look into it :-D

Lizzy, for the cream jacket with the belt, if you’re going to wear it open maybe try tying the belt in the back into a loose knot? Then the long belt won’t be dangling. I do that on a lot of jackets with belts. Loved the video!

This comment isn't testing basics related, but you had mentioned recently you did a styling job and loved it. I think a great series would be to style your (non-blog/YT) friends, especially those with different body shapes than you. Maybe use their closets or take them shopping and see what kind of outfits you'd make. I love your vids and style, but as at 5' 4" and with a more curvy, hourglass shape, "boxy" and "shapeless" are like my worst enemies when it comes to fit. Would love to see your eye and perspective on a non-model-esque body.

Re wool content I guess it’s just if it comes from a sheep it’s wool where as angora is rabbit and mohair is goat. Also (I’m a weaver lol) I think because there are so many different ways that percentage of wool could be represented in the weave is why the percentage is so confusing. For example that wool could be a really fine worsted wool just used in the weft as opposed to a scratchy Shetland or new wool. Hope that’s helpful, i am truly obsessed with wool. Gr8 vid I can’t wait for a wool COATS one 🤤
@arguchik

I think the second fiber was alpaca, not angora. :) But yeah, wool can be spun *so many* different ways, and I can't even imagine how many ways it can be incorporated into a woven fabric. (I'm a knitter, not a weaver, LOL.)

Hi Lizzy, would you please consider for next time testing similar styles / cuts of the item? I know you've said you didn't want to buy five of the same thing, however, I think for us "consumers" of this series it would be actually way more helpful. To explain - I have been looking for a wool jacket (classic blazer style, which I would call a timeless basic) for a while now, and from this video, I have gotten only one like that in the Jigsaw one, while the others were more "trendy". So although I was looking forward to this testing basics a lot, unfortunately I didn't receive the information I was hoping for (that is, comparison of 5 classic wool jackets in different price points). Not to say the jackets weren't beautiful, however not that realistic to buy if one is looking for a basic/classic piece. Thanks a lot if you take this into consideration :)
@peaceoglory

I have to agree with you on that. It's not really testing basics if the pieces aren't basic but instead very trendy. Not that I didn't enjoy the video, but didn't really get the information I expected.

Hi! Lizzy did do a testing basics on longline blazers if you're still interested in her thoughts on different ones! She also did one on winter coats which are mostly long, wool coats in a very classic style

@Emma Nguyen Hi! Thank you - I have watched both of those before. However, nor "normal" blazers neither winter coats are the thing that I imagine when you say "wool jacket". For me, there is a distinct difference between all three and all can be a part of a - let's say - classic, timeless wardrobe.
@NatalovesLilly

1990made I think the idea of testing basics was exactly what you described (back when Lizzy started the series). But I think I remember her saying that she didn’t want to carry on the series like that because she would end up with 5 very similar maybe even identical styles in her wardrobe; creating a very unbalanced and overflowing wardrobe. I also think she got a little bored of the series, but knows her subs like it, so she didn’t want to abandon it. Unfortunately the concept is no longer clear and as you stated it is more trend driven. But so is Lizzy as whole. Her style was very basic/ minimalistic when she started her blog. With time, personal development and rise in subscribers and opportunities, her style started getting more trend driven. Which doesn’t fit the series anymore and that’s why it kind of feels like it’s a bit „useless“ for us, looking for the best quality staples. Maybe she should rename the series or think of other ways she can carry on!

Shannon hi! I know this isn’t the same as a video from Lizzy, but I was just looking at the Uniqlo wool coats the other day-I found that they’re pretty thin, and the wool is a bit scratchy and feels to be of lower quality. If you’re in a warmer climate where your winters don’t get below 10C, you could probably get away with it, especially if you’re trying to save money, but I found much better quality coats for similar prices elsewhere. Hope that helps!

My skin can detect 5% wool in clothing, very itchy!, the only wool clothing I have is the camel Alpaca from & Other Stories they you also showed a while back, and I only have it because the alpaca fibers soften the effect of the wool and it is lined, sometimes if I wear sleeveless it's slightly itchy. Does anyone know if itchy wool is a quality thing? Or that some people are just sensitive to it? The first will coat I bought and returned was from cos, it was so itchy!
