If you ever get the chance to do a trip to more rural Wales (where you'll probably get better Guiness tbf) I'd definitely recommend trying to find a pint of Felinfoel stout. Much more similar to Guiness in that's its a full, creamy, dry stout so better for a comparison but also has some of the British cask beer style elements to it too.

Was more a South Wales valleys accent and a good attempt. Most of Cardiff accent is more akin to Liverpool and Boston as big Irish communities in early 20th century as a port city. Craig Bellamy or Aaron Ramsey if you ever hear them talk. Sam Warburton for the posher North Cardiff accent.

Years ago, in the last century, some of the best Guinness in Britain was in Wales! There was a pub on the coast, in a village near Cardiff Airport, where the Landlord would have barrels of Guiness shipped over regularly from Dublin on a small boat. The pub would be packed out when it was on. That was in the days when most British Guinness was the thin, bitter stuff on draught, brewed at the Park Royal Brewery in London. Think bottled Guinness Original, but on draught?

It's a decent pint, when on form? It's a Dark Mild and a real ale, so should be served around 12 - 15 degrees celsius. Colder and you wouldn't taste it too much. Probably why Yank beers are so cold, to kill any slight flavour? BTW, Mild means mildly hopped not mild in strength. You get some milds that are around 5% and more.

To be honest it is good to see him opening his mind to other beers other than Guinness. I enjoy O’ Hara’s Leann Folláin and in Kilkenny they have a tied house called Brewery corner. If Guinness Guru ever goes back to Kilkenny he should go to Kytelers inn and try any of the four Sullivan’s beer on draught in that pub. I think Draught beer in Ireland could do with being served a few degrees warmer.

Milds used to go up to 6 percent ABV. Irish breweries used to brew milds. You could argue Irish red ale is a mild ale as both are more malt forward and are sweeter than other beers.

I worked for S.A Brains and Brain was the family name of the owners (Samuel Arthur Brain). The dark has alot of history but has lost its appeal over the years. You should be trying the bitter or SA if you fancied a session ale, or rev James if feeling adventurous. They also make quite a nice lager called bayside and a craft IPA called Barry island which are both worth a crack and decently priced.

If you’re trying local ales that have turned ‘National’ such as Brains, you want to try ‘Pitch’ by Robinson’s of Stockport, near Manchester Airport. I’m a 35-yr gurgler of Guinness in Ireland, the U.K. & the rest of the World. ‘Pitch’ is almost as good as Gravediggers Guinness, better than the usually cold & watery U.K. Guinness & keeps me happy enough when on a 8+ pint sesh’! I’m a Brother Gurglar of Guinness. And I rate Pitch from Robinson’s VERY highly indeed. 👍🏻🍻
