In a confirmatory factor analysis of categorical indicators, a research may be interested in a chi-square difference test between a model constraining factor loadings and thresholds to be the same across groups (scalar invariance) and a model constraining only factor loadings to be the same (metric invariance). Dr. Walter Leite shows how to obtain the chi-square difference test for the metric versus scalar invariance model comparison using the Mplus software.
