Build up its size first. 5 inch, still very young, color not showing at this stage, pretty much pointless... so dont stress your fish out. If its WTT, just get whatever cheap white led stick you can get, this helps to develop shine till lvl 5 or crossing. Fyi, pale color will start to show on ring and face around 9-12 inch. By then you can start to tan your fish. At the current 5 inch size, you still have another 5-6 month down the road to get your fish to around 10 inch. Happy aro keepin

This lamp uv intensity rating similiar to morning sun when I tested with uv sensor card. Well I presume, we can call it a soft-medium uv intensity light suitable for long duration application. As for the term 'soft tanning' my understanding is limited duration of light usage, eg 2-4 hours daily. Exp2: if u use 4-8 high uva/uvb emmiting light, you still can do soft tanning as well if we control the duration to 1-2 hour. Exp3: using those pll /t5 for 24 hours, can consider as soft tanning as well as thier tiny amount of uva/uvb are so insignificant or near 0 after filter by tank glass panel. So this 'soft tanning' is pretty much a "fark up" term that encapsulate multiple variables. Lol. TLDR, its a good light for the price.🤣

Is the tica tanning light effective?

In my opinion it's a light suitable for sub adult under 12-13 inch without any detrimental effect. However it still boils down to the fish innate potential. So pls treat lights & diet as booster to hasten its color development. :)

@@wkng8303 so technically you don't even need the lights if they have the right genetics?
