Ouch. This is why the cord is a must. 20 colonies per battery? So 100+/- times charging batteries per round on 5k hives. Just not financially feasible.

Apivar on 5000 hives is $25,000. One signature on that cheque. I also know guys who have invested into 2 cannons, which requires accessories. I’m out of a yard before they would heat up during setup. It’s all a matter of perspective. I’ve treated thousands of colonies with the cannons and with a couple InstantVaps per person, they would walk circles around the cannons PLUS provide an exact dose

Hi Ian! This is a great test. I know I've asked before and you said that you do close up the hives after OAV to keep the vapor inside. I'm watching again and it looks like she's delivering the OAV and pulling the unit off but not placing a rag over the entrance for the usual 10 minutes. My question is, do you find it to be just as effective 01:35 with the entrance left open as it is when closing them up? If it is, that's a huge time saver. I hope you get through winter in great shape this year, and I'm glad this showed up in my feed this morning. All the best!

So, i come from Slovenia, and most of us here use AZ type of hives. That being said, i bought a couple of styrofoam hives, same type as Ian uses here. Don`t know what the exact word is, we just call them stack hives. That being said, the ones i use don`t have a solid bottom board, there is just a wire mesh for ventilation purposes. When i used InstaVap with oxalic acid, most of the vapor bees vented out from the bottom of the hive (through the said wire mesh). So, the next time i did it, a put a damp rag underneath the hives and it worked out fine. Very little vapor was comming from the entrance of the hives. Judging from the video, Ian has very little vapor escaping due to the solid bottom board. However, it`s probably best to just follow the advice and also close the entrance as well and be on the safe side. :)

As one of the faces of Beekeeping in Manitoba, do you think that’s a good message to send and granted I did not watch every little second if you put a disclaimer in or anything. Also I am not sure if you did both a Spring/Fall Apivar or not. Having said that this new Vaporizer is the best of the 3 I have used, the fellow from Vauxhall Is second and Pro-Vap is a distant third. Keep up the good work!!!

Ian, one thing I did with my instavap is purchased an battery adapter, which allowed me to purchase other cheaper batteries. Ex. I bought the Ryobi adapter. Then went to my local Direct tools and purchased their 4ah batteries at 24$ ea US. This allows me to cost effectively buy 5 batteries for the same cost as 1 Milwaukee. In your situation, needing probably 6-12 batteries, it would save you several hundred dollars. Just a thought. Talk to you soon…

Picked mine up last year and it paid for itself in time saved and convenience. I already have a battery of DeWalt batteries so it's easy enough to get all of them charged up the night before. Loading and unloading four/six little batteries is a lot easier on the body than my old system of two car batteries, an inverter and 200 feet of extension cords. Saving my aging body from that misery, and the eventual medical bills, the $500 is well worth the investment. So is the cost of the full-face respirator. I'm guessing Carrie is diggin' it...

I get that perspective. I bought one last year because I have enough hives to justify the expense. To your point of inflation, the cost when I bought it last year is the same amount he is charging now. He hasn't upped his price. As someone who spends weeks, every night, treating hives...it saves me money in valuable time and, most importantly, it saves my health (from heavy lifting). That is priceless (or, at least a savings in medical bills, later). If a bee club or group of a few beekeepers can afford to go in on one unit, everyone might be served. Having this tool allows me to lend out my older ProVap to the bee club and clients, thus creating more utility to a larger number of beeks. Trickle down effect.

Needless to say, Api Bioxal contains sugars which caramelizes inside the device and clogs it up. I learned my lesson, took device apart and cleaned it, switched to pure OA and have been using it since with no problems.
