People keep asking why I use the Pride watch face, and the answer is that it's objectively the best face, and rainbows are cool.

On my series 7 I fixed the glove - crown contact issue by putting it in water lock mode. Your solution seems to be better I’ll have to test it out. I also just roll up my left jacket sleeve so it doesn’t cover the screen. Always on display is nice for riding imo

Literally came here for the navigation portion. I like the watch for showing whatever the next turn is. I don’t even use the watch to change music or anything else. The flipping of the crown is a godsend and I feel real dumb for not figuring it out sooner. My glove would continually mess with the controls. Even flipping it to the other side, I still have issues keeping my sleeve from hitting the screen or dial and messing with my GPS turn-by-turn. Setting it up for underwater mode works, and is the only option I’ve found that helps lock your screen from being touched, but still allows you to see the screen. When I’m riding somewhere new, the only thing I want it to literally do is show the next turn. You’d think apple would have an option for that? Anyway, great video.

The biggest appeal to me is for navigation. This seems way better than having to mount a cellphone or gps.

I use a knock-off Apple Watch (Xiaomi Amazfit Bip), and my experience has been that it is really helpful to ride with the watch on. I do try to use my phone mount for longer rides, but for quick around-town trips where I don't need navigation, I'd often rather leave my phone in my pocket. Being able to quickly glance at notifications at stops actually helps me ride less distracted, as I can know if something is important to respond to or not and adjust my plans accordingly.

Notifications and information intake is one of the first issues I can finally look at and say 'YOU KNOW WHEN I STARTED RIDING WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY OF THESE 'CELL PHONES'. WE JUST MISSED INFORMATION AND WE LIKED IT THAT WAY'

@@SquidTips one of the best things about going flying is that half my notifications don't come thru and I like it that way. The flip side is that it starts catching up as you come in for landing right as you're supposed to be focusing on what you're doing.

On the watchOS versions you're using you'd probably have been well served to know about the multitasking view to quick jump to the last app. This fall, it's moving from single click the button to double click the crown and it's way faster. Other option is a music complication on your face.

Thank you for this video! I no longer feel like the only person who has a love hate relationship with using my apple watch while riding. I usually only use it for my Pandora BUT like you pointed out, it's pointless with sleeves sometimes : / This is why I was overly excited when I heard the new IOS was going to allow apple watch gestures! Well I have it and you can only use it for about 5 different things that of course do not include skipping songs. This would be awesome though to be able and just do a gesture with your hand while riding to control your music :( I spent over $500 on my Cardo and it sounds like crap. I've tried lots of different headphones and my airpods are the only ones that sound good in my helmet (if I can get them to stay in) but controlling them with the watch while riding can be a pain. I think the only fix is going to be to mount my phone : /

I’m pretty stoked to use my Apple Watch with my Packtalk. I keep forgetting to pair them. As far as nav goes… maybe take a trip to Commiefornia and see how you get on with no visible street signs. Or milemarkers. How about those exit number? Exit 332 is followed by exit 27 2 miles later. Yeah. Fun stuff. Not that nav is the greatest thing ever, to be sure. And navigating with a watch freaking sucks. But that’s just me.

@MrClay1971

@@SquidTips that’s the plan. Not sure how well it’ll work, since Apple watches don’t store a lot of music and I usually ride where I need a Spot since cellular just isn’t… but I guess I’ll find out. I mean, when I’m done procrastinating.

Hey, thanks for the vid! One extra function, which came to my mind when I noticed a screw, barely visible, in my rear tire. There are bluetooth valves, working with the apple watch or even other smartwatches which allow you monitoring of your tire pressure and send notifications in case of low tire pressure. Did not test this out though, cause I do not own a smartwatch so far. But due to the increasing amount of functionalities in all the different areas such as sport, connectivity and even biking…well fuck yeah I think I am also going to get one. Even if I hate to be constantly connected to everyone. Another feature is the crash detection. So the watch can call for help because you flew from a bridge due to being distracted from the watch itself. 🤘
