I have a dust collector from harbor freight. Actually catches everything. I had to upgrade the bucket tho with a Lowe's one😅

Your product exceeded my expectations. I have experimented with different vacuums and hose sizes. I would love to see a Dustopper that is just as effective with a smaller hose design. I have a specific need that I am wanting to solve.

Thanks for the demo and overview. I did not know about that foxalien dust collector, checking that out! Dust deputy also makes a low profile cyclone now too, the "low pro". I'm curious as to how it compares to this one.

Dustopper sells two "packages" . One for a first time installation that includes elbows and hose. The other package is for an upgrade to an existing dust collection setup where the purchaser already owns elbows and hoses.

Interesting! 🙂 I use a conical separator that does the same job but it is conical in shape and is taller than I would have liked. That means I can't place it just anywhere. I didn't know that a device so compact like that exists so I will look into that. The only issue I see is that I had to use a more sturdy barrel for the dust collection because I have it hooked up to my media blaster unit and my experience of trying to use a five gallon bucket has not been successful - it would very often collapse like you mentioned here. I do like the size and shape of the unit you have, though, so I will revisit that project. Useful video - thank you. 👍

The Oneida "Dust Deputy" didn't work as well as I thought it should for over $120 so Woodcraft got it back (I was out the cost of hardware/fittings and another bucket lid, time/effort assembling it-about $20 and a good four hours). See my suggestions on size/power of vac and filter. Dustopper Pro has me sold on it for the price, effectiveness and size.

@@PawPawsWorkShop How good does $200-350 work vs: the thousand dollar Euro vac "system"??? I have no idea and I hope I never do!😁😁I like you and your videos. You have "common sense" and a budget, and deal with real-life space in the shop/work area.

My only issue is that my 5 gal bucket sometimes collapses because of the suction strength.
@PawPawsWorkShop

Yes, that can be a problem. This is definitely a lot of suction power.

Got one of these from Home Depot a couple of years ago and use it a lot with table saw, chop saw and just general pickup. With MDF and drywall type dust (really fine dust) it is not quite as effective since that dust doesn't weigh much like wood dust. You have to keep watch on the bucket as when the fillings pile up too close to the suction hose at the baffle they will suck on in to the vacuum, so empty regularly. I don't let mine get more than about 2/3's full. There are numerous videos regarding a rolling cart with the bucket above the vacuum. Also, don't let the bucket tip over as stuff will be sucked up into the vacuum. Just my experience.

I've got the original Dustopper, and this new PRO version. The gasket and the improved output port add up to a considerable improvement in performance. I still like the original...but this one is definitely better.

I have one of these and it works just fine at keeping dust and wood chips out of the shop vac. They do have one major draw back in that this unit severely affects cfm and doesnt work with my Ridgid planer. If you need the cfm maximized I would avoid this.

Dustopper comes in two versions. One version has everything for a first time installation. The other version is for someone who has already has a cyclone and wants to upgrade to the new Dustopper PRO (upgrade kit). That way if you are upgrading your existing setup, you don't pay more for hoses and elbows you already own. I own both, and find the newer Dustopper to be a nice improvement over the original. Thanks for your post!

An improvement over the older "Dustopper" IF you don't over fill the bucket. A "healthy" shop vac (say "3.5HP+" and 8-12 gallons with the expensive re-usable filter (bag over it!) helps, but I use my 5 gallon 2.8 HP "Shop-Vac" brand inside the house for re-model work and it does fine-just slower and more "super-fines" (gypsum dust and drywall compound dust) get to the vac filter. Air flow and suction makes all separators work better, but I snagged a close-out model 8 gallon vac 4+(?) HP (how on 15 amps 120 volts???) at the Blue Big-Box store for $100 and the two do the job better than an under $200 set-up should-MUCH BETTER!

It took me forever watching many many youtubes to figure it out: Yes, other models/brands can be a bit more effective but... if you use a HEPA filter and dust bag with ANY cyclone separator it should stop it all, and the filter/dust bag should last a long time, possibly months or years. I went with the RIDGID 14gal 6HP NXT mode with VF6000 filter and VF3602 bag, Home Depot 5gal bucket, the Dust Deputy low profile (very similar to the Home Depot one reviewed here), and I am looking forward to testing it after it arrives today. My goal is zero dust (including the very fine dust) in the garage.

I got mine at Home Depot and it has worked great, as long as I don't overfill the bucket with sawdust.
