I have two of these, but I have not done the scrape/linseed oil-turpentine to the handles yet after a year. That said, I have moved huge green white oak rounds with this - actually dragged a few of the large cookies (+ 200 lbs) across my driveway to the splitter. This is a great tool. I keep one in my truck to go to the local firewood "dump" from the tree services. Good curve on the end of the handle and sticks like a champ. Good review! GOD Bless

I put bicycle inner tube on mine up by head and on handle for better grip three layers

It's pronounced Ocksencopf. Means Oxhead. Also the name of a mountain in Germany.

Refinished my handle exactly like you did. Used it all year with out any problems. Everything from popular to white oak. Beech seemed like was the hardest wood to stick it in. I would not pin the handle. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
