Great review! I've already got an Ohuhu stove and I'm getting ready to take it on a canoe-camping trip. I saw someone on Amazon said pellets were a great fuel source, so I looked on KZitem and found this video. It seems like a really convenient, cheap, clean, and long lasting fuel choice. Also easily packed in a ziplock in case of soaking wet weather. Your two-person review was refreshing! I love hearing your kid's opinions and enthusiasm!

We like the pellets, but the real secret to long burn times is lighting from the top. It takes longer to get it going, but it last considerably longer. It's my sons stove and we love it, we have even used it inside the fireplace when the power went out. Thanks for the comment.

Good for high heat requirements such as boiling water. I haven't figured out how to regulate it yet. I can stop the burning by covering the stove with a metal coffee (or similar) can.

The trick is to partially close the air intakes.

You regulate the flames by limiting and keeping a watch on the fuel you put in. These stoves are really not meant to be "regulated" to a simmer. Limit the fuel and you limit the heat/flame output.

What a lovely wholesome video 😊. I just bought one of these, thinking it's a type of standard wood burner. I thought it would be ok to make a cuppa at least but thrilled to learn it is a gasifier and loaded correctly, can burn and cook for an hour!!!

I use a quick tinder fire starter to light a tinder nest and once it's burning i feed small sticks until i get some coals and add the wood pellets afterwards. I bought 2 of them off Amazon for my get home bags and they are great little stoves. Great video by the way.

that's a good question. The flame pattern is similar to a gas stove burner. I suppose you could but your grill would need to be adjustable in height, as the flames can be quite high at first and then die down. Also not sure what drippings from your food would do to the grill.

I have never had luck with using pellets. After 15 minutes the pellets turn black and the heat reduces by almost 75%. It seems like the pellets settles and block the vents at the bottom of the container impeding airflow. I even purchased a 20lb bag of apple wood to use a year ago. After watching you guys i feel i need to give it another go. Tip with cooking rice, leave it alone until it has absorbed all of the water to get fluffy rice. Or else you get gooey rice.

Try again. Ours have always burnt fine all the way through, but I never fill it more than about half way. I just add a handful at a time as needed. Maybe that's why it keeps burning??? The package that I cooked in this video is mostly just rice shaped pasta. I'm not sure you could really cook normal rice on this thing, you would need to be able to turn the heat way down and simmer with the lid on. Maybe if you timed it just right ant let the fire die down once it has started boiling.

we have been doing this! I always carry Everclear for disinfecting and for a backup alcohol stove. just pour a cap full over the pellets and wait a few minutes for it to soak in.

Assemble the whole stove, and put around 1/2lb of pellets in it, rather than the smaller amount topped up by pine needles as shown, making sure the inner ports are clear of pellets, ie they are below the line of the ports. Light the top layer only , either with your primed cotton tinder or a little birch bark and waxed cotton swab, etc, and be patient. After around 4 minutes or so, the pellets will have taken, and after another few minutes the gases will start to burn. You thereafter will have around 35-45minutes of burn/cook time.

Want to do this thing better? I bought one of these Chinese burners too. Do you notice all the soot stuck to your pots if you try and cook over this stove as it comes from the factory? All that Carbon SHOULD be getting burned, giving you more heat to use. And most of it COULD be, with two little tweaks. All of the heat from flames you see ABOVE the top of the stove is an indicator of wasted fuel, it's burning inefficiently (too rich a fuel/air mix), crudding up your pots and the stove with the unburned Carbon. These stoves work much better if you cut the area of the air intake vents under the fuel (primary air) down to about 5% of the total area of the bottom of the stove. Also, you could add at least 3 or 4 inches of a stack above the existing stove top, the secondary air (upper ring of air inlets) needs more draw to burn the wood gas from below properly. I did this with the lid from a 29 oz. can of peaches with 19 evenly spaced holes made by a 5/64" drill placed in the bottom of the fuel area and a hardware store 4" to 3" duct adapter. TRY IT.
