...in spite of a few KZitem naysayers, WYDOT did a tremendous job getting this important route reconstructed. Perhaps it's not a permanent engineering solution but it works and its got traffic flowing until a more permanent fix can be designed and constructed.

Yes, essentially they tightened the curve, which isn't an ideal long term solution, but for now that will have to do. Ironically, right next to where the base of the slide is, that's right about where I think the tunnel entrance should be, bored through Mt. Glory, essentially (ツ) ☕☕(ツ)

Also, given a tunnel bypass would benefit both Idaho and Wyoming, particularly with the wintertime economies on both sides of the Tetons, both States should invest in getting it done.

My brothers live there and drive on this road. This section has been a problem for a decade with it cracking because of land shifting. Yes, perfect storm of something they knew that was happening.

The fill is from adjacent cuts into the adjacent hillsides which is decomposed sandstone and granite . . essentially sand.

That’s AWESOME!! Blame inadequate human engineering on the weather, temperatures, “perfect storm” magical conditions…. Not on the human error that it is. The bottom line is that road is highly built up with and on loose soils in a unstable area.

HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN GAS??? I just plotted the detour or bypass….it’s 40 miles longer each way if your commuting So 80 mile a day X 5 day work week. 400 miles. Or a tank of gas $75-100 max…. Reporter drama from a guy in Boise……250 miles away…..laughable

This portion of the highway that failed sits on a "saddle", which is one of the geographic features that is least capable of holding water or being impacted by it. This is just another example of Wyoming "goodie-two-shoes" public relations nonsense.
