I love these fundamentals videos. This one was super gratifying to watch, just because it was what I did. After I got into Tetris 99, I borrowed Puyo Puyo Tetris from a friend and have been doing 40 line sprint there. I'm consistently sub 2-min, and my PB is slowly reaching that 1:45 mark. It also made the Tetris part of PPT pretty trivial in difficulty, lmao. I don't really get Puyo Puyo yet, but it was funny to get the challenge to "clear ten lines in less than two minutes".

You can emulate a controller for your PC; that's what I do. Plug in PS4 controller, download ds4windows, run ds4win, assign controller to port 1, emulate keyboard inputs to d pad, buttons and LR triggers ??? Profit! It takes like less than 10 mins to setup. You can also do the same with the Switch controllers but that's a lot more steps.

Just a thought: I noticed that Puyo Puyo Tetris, even in its 40L mode, has a lot of delay after clearing lines. This does sort of bug me, but it is great incentive to focusing on building clean and clearing only Tetrises.
@randomperson5579
11 ай бұрын
the line clear delay and the lack of choice of soft drop factor in puyo puyo tetris is just so aggravating, if it wasn't there i could easily get sub 55 seconds in handheld mode on switch, i can get 58s-1m on keyboard in tetrio and jstris and my finesse on keyboard compared to switch is really bad (my highest finesse on keyboard is like 75% usually closer to 50%) it took me about 2 weeks when i started to go from 3 to 2 minutes a month or 3 to go from 2 to 1:45 about a year to go from 1:45 to 1:15 and a year later i get about 1:15 to 1:05 (all in PPT and PPT2) i've been mostly focusing on 6-3 stacking sure it's a little slower for me and i'm getting closer to 1:15 (1:05 in tetrio), but it's a little easier with keeping the stack flat and easier to find t-spin opportunities.

The problem I have with playing Sprint is that the keys you use are so different from the buttons on Tetris 99. I'm using three fingers on a keyboard to do the same thing only one thumb does in Tetris 99. I find myself fumbling with the keys when transitioning from one game to the other. But I can see how playing Sprint can teach you a lot about the game in general. I wish Tetris 99 would come out with it's own practice mode.

I never really used the sprint in my first months / years into tetris. I would recommend NES tetris which is a really good version of tetris to challenge your mind. Basically there’s just one Next box, and no Hold. You need to use your thinking to just make the most of all the pieces you get. My first 40L sprint was 1 minute 13, and then my PB is 52 seconds on worldwide-combos.
@QuotePilgrim
5 жыл бұрын
I usually only play marathon when I play solo tetris, and speed doesn't matter a lot in that mode. Regardless, my 40 line sprint average is a bit lower than 1:50, possibly 1:40, and I still manage to get lower than 50th place in half the matches I play. On marathon mode, my score was higher than over 99% of players on Tetris Friends, and my 2p Battle ranking was 14 (elite) before the service shut down. I'm a decent Tetris player, yet somehow I'm garbage at Tetris 99.
