To me one of the greatest shows of all time. Rece, mark, and Lou were the perfect trio. Rece took control when he needed to and kept time and segments moving. For a debateish show mark and Lou were perfect. If Lou said red, you know dam well marks taking blue.

Mack brown was a victim of his own success. As a lifetime orangeblood, I can honestly say he rose the stature of the program, but recruiting misses, complacent behavior and horrible qb play was his downfall.
@stuungar4034

Mack was an above average recruiter....nothing more. Mack owes his success to Major Applewhite, Vince Young, and Colt McCoy. Every highlight in the Mack Brown era can be narrowed down to those 3 guys. Mack even admitted that Texas started winning when they stopped trying to coach Vince Young and they simply let Vince "play football." He recruited well on paper, but with so many busts and so many underrated players going out of state, you have to wonder whether his staff actually studied film on recruits, or simply looked at rivals and offered scholarships to the all of the 5 star guys in Texas. Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas State, etc...pulled a huge number of big time players out of the state of Texas that were never even whiffed at by Texas...most of whom would have gone to Texas in a heart beat had they been given an offer. It was time for Texas to get a new coach. But the Texas administration embarrassed themselves big time. They all but pushed out Mack thinking Saban was coming in. When he passed, they looked to Harbaugh, Pete Carrol, Art Briles, Mike Gundy, Les Miles....all who passed and ended up with their Plan Q in Charlie Strong. Everyone talks about how Texas is the best coaching gig in the country. On paper it probably is.....very deep pockets, prestigious academics, one of the best college towns in America, an extremely rich recruiting area with some of the best players in the nation basically committing to the university before they play a down of middle school football. But all of these big name coaches are quite content on passing up the "best job in cfb." I think Texas's problem is one of it's biggest assets....very deep pockets. I believe there are boosters that have a lot of money and influence and none of the coaches want to deal with their arrogant bullshit and intrusions.

Lol espn is always pulling shit out of their ass. Yeah Mack Brown missed on some Qbs, but that was because he had Gilbert who was the 5 star national Gatorade player of the year coming out of HS. And honestly, nobody would have known he would be a huge 5 star bust. Manziel was a gamble as well, average coming out of HS, even aTm wasn't completely sold.
@JSTX9216

Yeah, If I remember correctly, Manziel transferred from Oregon to Aggy. Gilbert did suck, now they're stuck with just Herp Derp McCoy.

+Fred Ellison He was trying to transition them to the full spread. Mack Brown had very honest intentions after the 2009 national championship by switching to the pro style. He realized that he had to have an overall good offense. But in the state of Texas that simply will not work due to the prevalence of the spread offense.

Charlie Strong with back to back top ten recruiting classes. Stopped Aggy momentum. If Mack was still coaching UT, Aggy would have won a championship by now as they would have the top texas players. Strong prevented that while creating his formidable team.

I'm so sick and tired of people talking about the the recruiting misses. They weren't due to talent. They were due to compatibility of the type of offense they were running. Johnny Manziel, RG3 all those players were due to the pro style offense they were trying to run. The only miss they can be called out for is Andrew Luck.

As a lifelong Texas fan, it chaps my ass when people tell me that I don't appreciate what he's done at Texas when I expressed that I thought he should step down. I am very grateful for the things he's done, but the bottom line is that Mack Brown bred a culture at Texas that was built around entitlement. It's what led Texas into the slaughterhouses against OU and it showed, because if I know one thing, it's that in the Brown/Stoops era, RARELY has an OU team been more talented than a Texas roster. They just wanted it more and were sick of hearing about Texas.
