The aim, the damage, hitting stickies and all the other mechanics in my opinion have always been easier to work on than mentality or mindset. There will be hella videos comin out on these mechanics in the near future. However the baseline mentality and mental fortitude is something I want to address because most players of any e-sport will always lack in this department. Myself included sometimes which is why I wanted to address this very significant aspect of a players complete skill. By acquiring the right thought process and competing with a healthy mindset, the mechanical aspects (aim + movement) will automatically follow through. Train the mind, the body will follow.

habib_6ix_God I really want to apply this shit but I have no idea where to go. Where can I go to practice my mentality in a real comp 6/ environment? All I have is tf2center but half the time nobody talks and it doesn’t feel like a genuine comp experience.
@habib_6ix_god389

@@navnavnav99 I feel this, I was there at one point, I would recommend Pug sites as they are normally more vocal and a bit more serious. However in today's dark ages your best bet for the realest comp 6s environment would be your own team! Whether you are interested or not, if you are from NA I would look at RGL.gg. If you are from EU, I would look at ETF2L as these two are the respective leagues for NA and EU regions.

Well made video, I hope this helps a lot of newer demo player however, I am worried some of the more abstract concepts, specifically the point on syncing with your team, will be a lot harder for newer players to grasp and I think giving simple examples for newer players would help them understand it better. Some examples that might help to clarify this concept are as follows. 1. The enemy team is right next to the rock on process mid and is pushing through. Your team wants to force them back but you cannot take the space that would be required to force them back without taking a lot of damage. So in order to take that space, the Demoman spams at them to force them out of the position that threatens your teammates. Your teammates can now take the space they need to push them back, such as your soldiers' now being able to jump at them without dying on the approach, allowing them to force the enemy team back out of the choke and get some kills. 2. Let's assume the enemy position is in the same spot as previously but your soldier is able to bomb them. What you can do is use the space the soldier is creating from the bomb by setting up stickies behind them so, as the soldier forces them back with their bomb, you detonate your stickies on the retreating enemies and do a massive amount of damage. 3. This example is somewhat inspired by the tactics of Canadian General Arthur Currie and Australian general John Monash during WW1 where they would have the cores leapfrogging each other with one covering while the other advanced. This same idea is applicable to TF2 where some of your team uses spam to cover your advance allowing you to get to a place to cover the rest of your team's advance. As a Demoman, you are effectively the main artillery battery of your team, so you are the best class to cover your team's advance through a creeping barrage until they can get to a spot to cover your advance. In addition, some other tips I hope you touch on at some point are as follows. - Being paranoid as a demo, if you are unsure if an enemy player is hiding next to a doorway then you should always either have a teammate go through there to check first or using your pipes and stickies to pre-emptively check if they are there. Using ammo to check for enemies is worth not dying to a scout sneaking up on you. It is better to detonate your traps to keep a scout from killing you than to walk in blindly and die, destroying all your traps anyways. - Unless you are pushing, always have a plan to defend yourself incase a scout rushes you, be it sticky traps or pipes, always find a way to defend yourself. The only class easier to kill than a Demoman is a Demoman without ammo or traps to defend themselves. - Using both weapons, if you are getting rushed by a scout, plant a single sticky right in front of you and try to hit them with a pipe, if it takes 0.5 seconds to swap weapons and stickies take 0.7 seconds to arm with about 0.1-0.2 seconds of travel time for the pipe to connect, hitting both the pipe and sticky within 0.1 seconds of each other should be an easy 160-200 damage. The sticky bomb also makes it easy to predict the scout's movement if they see it and try to avoid it. - Making sure to have a good reload pattern, a good reload pattern and reloading one weapon while the other's projectiles are sailing towards their target allows you to always be doing damage. - Not tunnelling one player, this is one of the most important tips as any class to learn and it applies here. - Making sure your traps are hard to spot and deal with. An easy way to practice this is to load up a map with a teammate playing on the enemy team as a soldier and find out where to put traps so they kill players while being hard to disarm without the enemy soldiers overextending. The last thing I would like to ask for newer players is to help clarify why good gamesense/positioning is more important than raw mechanical skill. You explained it very well but, for newer players, a simple example would help them understand it better. Probably the best example would be as follows: Let's say we have two soldiers fighting on flat ground, one of lower skill and one of higher skill. 9 times out of 10, the better soldier wins. But if the lower skill soldier has the high ground and is on a roof or something, then they have the advantage and the fight is closer to a 50/50. Even though one soldier is better than the other, the lower skill soldier having better positioning allows them to even the odds and makes it easier for them to win. Overall, great video, I really enjoyed it and I believe that videos like this will help to improve the play of Demomen in multiple skill levels, helping make the game even more competitive and fun to play. There are just some things I think would help make the videos even better, thanks. - shellnuts

hey habib sony vegas pro tip: sony vegas has this annoying effect called "resample" that makes most video clips look worse, especially at lower framerates. for some reason resample is on by default so whenever you add a video file to your project you should right click on it, go to properties, and click "disable resample" I can see this effect in the frag clips like at 4:03

Solid vid, bud. Really good for the first one in this format. Please keep em coming. I struggle with deciding when to keep pushing or engage versus when to hold back. As a result I often die unnecessarily. Some solid examples would be awesome. Not so much 'when you know you can kill so and so you push' and more *why* you know you can kill so and so, if you get what I mean...

The habit I have with demoman and soldier is consistently overextending and literally never retreating, when my team falls back I try to pick off a few kills before heading back which 97% of the time ends up with me dead. It's easy enough to tell myself to retreat but actively DOING it is a different story.
