Akira Toriyama did artwork for a lot of video games I enjoyed in the SNES, Playstation, and even the Xbox 360 era. While he is mostly known for Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest, he also worked on my all-time favorite JRPG Chrono Trigger, two fighting games Tobal No.1 and 2, as well as the RPG Blue Dragon. All of them made huge impact for me during the 90s and 2000s, and I still enjoy playing these games from time to time. Rest in peace, Akira Toriyama! ❤

EVERY currently living generation has been touched by Toriyama's work - gen alpha, gen z, millennials, gen x, and even boomers. The proof is easy to see all over youtube, and I have fond memories randomly talking to older mentors and younger coworkers and everything in between about what Dragonball meant to them. It's worth mourning, but honestly hard to feel too sad, even if he was by modern standards quite young when he passed. Much like the franchises he created, it doesn't really feel like death is forever. He's just running down Snake Way now.

@@TheIllustriouBlueJay I doubt Anime would be where it is today if it wasn't for Dr. Slump and Dragonball though. Sure, sailormoon also did a lot for anime, but dragonball is the one everyone knows about.

This is a man that impacted pop culture. Who made a series warm the hearts of millions worldwide. Dragon Ball was influential to many other works, including the fantasy manga turned anime Seven Deadly Sins. He designed the beloved cast of characters in the realm of video games with the Dragon Quest series, and the universally acclaimed Chrono Trigger with Enix and Squaresoft, even after they merged in 2003. I can't believe such a legend would be gone... This can't be real, but it indeed has been to all of us. May Toriyama-san rest in peace. 🕊 😔✌️

Sadly, as a kid I didn't get to watch Dragonball as it came out. My parents were pretty strict as to what we could watch. But I remember the first sleepover I had with one of my oldest and best friends to this day, and the entire night we watched episodes he had DVR'ed and played the DBZ fighting game that was on GameCube (I can't remember the name 😭). That night was one that sparked a lifelong friendship, and for that I will forever be grateful to Mr. Toriyama. If I could make one wish with the Dragon Balls, I'd wish that for just a second he got to feel every bit of joy he brought to so many for so long. Rest easy Mr. Toriyama ❤️

One of my oldest memories is the first time I saw Dragonball Z. It isn't super clear, but I believe it was Cartoon Network, and it was definitely in the early to mid 90s. They were broadcasting somewhat of a marathon of the early Saiyan Saga episodes and I believe it was the old dub from Canada before it was officially licensed by Funimation. My brother and I watched it on a big ol boob tube tv in my parent's basement and were dying to know more about this show. We had never seen anything like it. Rushing home from school to watch DBZ with your brother is the most relatable thing I've ever heard. I lived every day in school just to watch DBZ in the evening.

After this and loving the show i was looking at games for the ps2 in a game store saw the dragon quest viii cover and i could tell instantly that akira toriyama had done the models so i picked it up not really knowing anything about jrpgs or rpgs in general but that one link got me in and now jrpgs are my favourite types of games, and they are what i spend most of my free time playing now. All of what i enjoy now is just by chance and these a little decisions i made one day. Recently dragon ball dub has come you uk crunchyroll so ive been able to easily get my kids to start watch it and so far they love it
