tbh your words mean a lot to me. i've long been dreamin' of making my own music, but idk where to start and i'm afraid that my work will be judged as trash or something... but now i'm seriously considering giving it a shot! (btw i like daft punk too n we got the same taste bro)

I mean it man, start! don't listen to this mean, negative and insecure voice in your head. you are stronger! let me know how I can help! don't be too hard on yourself. learn one tiny new thing every day. In one year you will not believe how much has changed!

Hey David! I fell into a rabbit hole on youtube shorts from dj controller videos, to dj live sets, to remixs, and to your channel. idk how or what led me here but I am glad I've found and watched this video. The info you share answering questions is so genuine and thoughtful of you. I've been wanting to learn how to DJ after going to my first EDM show watching James Hype live. Like you said in the video, I did not care about EDM, never really listened to it but now, I want to create it and stand up on stage myself as the artist/DJ one day. I related to some of the questions you've answered but wanted to see if you explain a bit more on one of them. You talk about listening to skillrex's song and starting producing at age 24.. Where did you start off with? and how do you get into making electronic music? I'm the type of person who needs to plan things out and go about it A to Z in order, and for me I find it really difficult in where to start and what to learn first in producing. Any tips or practices I should do to get myself started and into it ? How do you learn the VST instruments, souds, creating the crazy sound effects in electronic music and etc... It would be really appreciate when I see the reply and I would like to thank you in advance for any advice or tips! Thanks David

Hey :) Thanks for your message! I really love connecting with people around the world with the same passion. Bad news first: I can't offer you a clear step by step plan. I don't think that exists even. The journey of an artist is about venturing out into the unknown. It's about exploring. What I can do though is elaborate a bit more on what worked for me and what I've learned along my journey. You write that James Hype inspired you. You probably really want to know how the hell this kind of music is made. This could be a good first "north star". Your job now is to aquire the knowledge needed to slowly build up the skills required. I would use the internet for this of course. It might take many years until stuff clicks, so make sure to keep it light, fun and playful. Imagine you're a child exploring the world. People overestimate what they can do in a day, but they underestimate what they can do in a year. Drop me an email if you need help, I also offer hands on coaching sessions!

@@DavidRitt YES! i think want to know how or what he does so I watch his performance in more indepth to learn the exact skill or technique hes using. I really fell in love with DJing and the idea of mixing songs together and etc but also just moving a crowd. the live show was incredible. Ive been watching some of your videos on making bass or leads and your "what I learned from.." series, and its a bit too fast for me in the sense I do catch the things you only say but do not show. BUT they are very helpful and informative. I guess I need to just start and be consistent and I might answer my own questions

+ it sounds like you should learn DJing first! Since this it what really inspires you. I think James Hype himself even has a DJ course.. Never tried it though!

(nevermind) I answered my own question. It appears that some radio edits have an extra bar at the breakdown to make the breakdown flow better, whereas the extended mix probably doesn't so that it can be used for mixing with other songs.
@DavidRitt
Жыл бұрын
exactly right mate! Although I also see extended mixes with an extra bar after the drop every now and then. In that case the DJ hopefully realizes that quick enough ;)
