I don't think anyone who runs a sub 15 in highschool stays up late frequently

Yeah, there probably isn't. The sub 15 part was exxagerated for the sake of the joke.

I used to work a Saturday job with an elite runner. I remember seeing him in a nightclub at 1am that night drunk, after he told me he had a race on the Sunday morning. I dont remember the exact details, but he ran an absurdly quick time and finished in the prize money about 9 hours later.

Genetics plays a role

They absolutely do. Even the people that get better from training probably have to have genetics that are willing to respond and adapt to training.

That’s unrealistic. You definitely have to train and recover to run sub 15. Sub 17 would be more believable

Just last weekend I ran a 5k to help a guy beat 20 minutes and then 40 minutes later a half marathon to help another guy beat his PR. Then I went to do some more running. Do I qualify or not?

If you did all of that in spite of not preparing for it, and living what many would consider an over the top unhealthy lifestyle then yes, you fit the description of John from this video.
