Deja Vu for Athing Mu! Back in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympic Trials Athing cut over after the lane break in front of Nia Akins, which caused her to fall to the track getting caught in Athing's long back kick while Athing quickly got her balance and took the lead to win. 2024 Athing cut over after the lane break in front of Raevyn Rogers without the confidence and speed she had in 2021 causing her to tumble to the track alone to finish last. Nia Akins has an excellent perspective that LIFE happens and it's up to us how we choose to deal with the good and bad Life brings. I'm sure what happened to her in 2021 falling because of Athing Mu's long back kick (in the same spot Athing Mu would fall 3 years later) to finish last set her on a road of redemption that made her a stronger and wiser runner determined to win national championships and make the 2024 Paris Olympic Games unlike the COVID 19 Tokyo Olympics. If it wasn't for that fall back in 2021, Nia Akins probably would not have had everything it took to finish first in 2024. Athing Mu needs to determine if her training group/coach is right for her because she still has the ability to break the world record one day and be the best 800 meters runner ever if she deals with this disappointment the right way.

It’s funny you mentioned what happened 3 years ago. It’s part of the sport and Mu did nothing to Akins. Akins fell and almost took Mu with her, so? People still crying about it. I don’t think Nia would have even make it to the Olympics 3 years ago. It’s a strike of luck for her what happened this year. She knows she’s in that position because Mu fell otherwise history would be different. I guess time for the gold for Keely or Mary 😮💨

As bad as I feel I really don't think she was ready because she didn't have the racing experience this season and maybe if the Olympics were in August she would have had more time to prepare but I really don't think she had it in her mentally her legs were starting to get back to where she could have been but Athing Mu could have front run if she had more races in her. She's too tall to be caught up in the middle. 😑 Better luck next time.

@@nnenne4 I honestly think she fared better in a much smaller more controlled training environment like what she had in College Station TX. Los Angeles was probably too much distraction. Plus Coach Kersee though a legend is quite peculiar with his athletes. It seemed to take a mental toll on her. To be honest while I didn’t expect this, I was a bit worried about her before the trials.

Interestingly, Nia Akins the winner of the race and the woman who fell at the last trial is the one who appears to clip Athing Mu from the back. Bobby Kersee, Athing’s coach in his protest claimed Athing was clipped from the back. It’s hard to believe the US is allowing this to happen. We now have little chance of medaling in the 800m. I will not be watching this event.

Incredible!! NIA AKINS...the runner who fell 3 years ago...OVERCAME the fall...and then comes full circle to WIN a victory in the US Olympic Finals. She now stands as a great example for ATHING MU...who now must overcome her unfortunate fall...and find the same course and strength within to rise again. Falls happen in life. They are our challenges. However, your unique GIFTING to run your race still remains in the runner, in spite of any fall. May each and every runner of life who experiences a fall, find the courage to rise up again...and win their race in life...no matter how long it takes! Congratulations to NIA for being such a beautiful example to all of us...of one who arose in faith...and found the courage WIN after a FALL. We pray and release courage, strength and love to ATHING and to ALL who have taken an unfortunate fall this season. We say and we pray...You too WILL rise again!!! ❤❤❤
