You are so right. I expected the same thing at first and started it with muted sound so I could just sit back and read it without listening to that machine like audio. When they showed the first part with him talking into his camera I had to turn up the sound. Wow! It was so relaxing sitting back, start the video over and, listen to his smooth delivery of some truly amazing facts about four friends and a song. One day it begins to grow legs of it's own. BOOM!!!! We have a smash hit that was not intended to be. When he reached the part about what the four did with the rest of their careers I found some of the legs it took on were astounding. Each of them went on to have something to do with the music 88 percent of the people on the planet would listen to I almost fell out of my chair. As he told how each passed I could only tap my chin with hands in prayer position and bow my head slightly with a thank you to each. Sorry I rambled on a bit but I love music so much.

@@the_guitar_trooper That song story is also a great one. Evidently, after the Lemon Pipers failed to chart a few times, they were given somewhat of an ultimatum to do “Green Tambourine” or face being dropped. Supposedly, they were not very fond of the song. They complied and, as they say, the rest is music history. While some may cast the song in a “bubblegum” throw away mold, I agree it’s a great track and even the somewhat gimmicky over the top echoed vocal effect really worked well on that particular track.

Thanks! It is a very difficult thing sometimes to discover what really happens. I try to dig through the ambiguous info. Over the years facts can easily become exaggerated or perverted and it is a constant battle to find out what really happened. One thing that I DO take liberties with is conversations, because they are rarely specific in documents. In cases where I want a conversation that isn’t specified, I will take literary license and forge a conversation that will match factual outcomes.

Thanks GT. I always wondered what the backstory on the song was. It certainly has staying power. It's a song about goodbye that never says goodbye. Kind of a paradox.

Who knew.! WOW 🤩!! I remember the song 🎶 well I was discharged from the USMC 12/15/69 a Vietnam Veteran and met my future wife in a part time job We worked together in the juvenile furniture department of Two Guys department store in North Bergen N.J. . She was engaged to be married already and I asked her out 50 times at least with no luck. Then her fiancé dumped her? And I began dating her in January 1970 and we were married in April 17 , 1971 the following year. I used to sing 🎶 that song in my head Kiss him goodbye., how ironic thank you for that information I never knew that.! 🧐🎯👍🏻💕😎

I just found this channel and, yes, I subscribed. I have heard that Tommy James and the Shondells have an interesting backstory as well. If you haven’t covered that yet, it might be a fertile source for a video.

@@the_guitar_trooper The story I heard was that Hanky Panky was recorded and promptly flopped. A couple of years later a DJ played the song as a golden oldie and it took off. Tommy James then had to put together a whole new band because the original players drifted away. This new line up and the fact the James had matured some accounts for the dramatic shift in styles from Hanky Panky to It’s Only Love and I Think We’re Alone Now. I don’t remember where I heard that so it might not be true but it’s a fun story to tell ll.😁

@@Wally97523 The nugget of that is true. Some details are(and I am leaving out A LOT) 1. After hanky-panky was recorded and flopped locally, the high school group that had recorded it disbanded. 2. The DJ who started playing it in Pittsburgh, found it in a rummage sale and liked it enough to play it. It became very popular only in Pittsburgh. 3. Once they finally located Tommy and invited him to Pittsburgh to witness how popular the record was, it was picked up to distribute nationwide. 4. The problem was, there was no group named the Shondells. Tommy had to wander from one night spot to another to find a group that would pose as the Shondells on a performance tour. That is all I’m gonna get into. OMG. His professional life was amazing and SCARY.

I believe Gary DeCarlo sang this song live, on one of those PBS Oldies Concert Shows. This would've been about 15-20 years ago I believe. The guy who organized the concerts, is named Lubinsky or something like that. I can't recall his first name. 😊

Yeah. At one point during Three Dog Night Captured Live at the Forum album, an audience member in the higher section yells a complaint of not being able to hear them very well and one of the group says “You can’t hear us up there? see? you should’ve bought the $5.50 tickets up front“

One fictitious group, at least in the beginning, was Herb Alpert and the “Tijuana Brass “. At first it was just Alpert himself who was playing all the brass instruments with the help of a multi track tape machine. The only reason there became an actual band was because he started getting requests for concerts.
