Lol, yeah. When I started learning to play drums and people are telling me what rudiments are called and how to mouth them, all I said was WTF. That sounds made up lol. It's only until you begin to advance you understand it like your grandfather explaining his bowel functions.

I too did all those wedding gigs, my wife still thinks I am a drummer and I haven't had a kit for about 40 years ( I'm 80 ). But when I sit down my thighs are a set of Ludwigs, a hard surface is my practice pad. Inthe kitchen, I'm Buddy Rich. Wolf Trap is my theme music. I guess once a drummer, always a drummer. Love your KZitem sets.

Sometimes I get a bit nervous watching drumming videos online because I can find it incredibly daunting watching a really talented drummer play something so great and make it look so easy. But I find you so inspiring. You make me want to continue learning as much as I can on the drums :)

There really isn't a quartet like him, Vinnie, Porcaro and Carlos Vega. Vinnie is an 👽, but these FOUR guys, man: pocket, feel, taste, the RIGHT things for a song. All my life, I have had ONE goal: to be a SONG drummer, and you definitely know what I mean. That's also why I'm a HUGE fan of Ash. I HAVE to meet the bunch of you guys. Damn this pandemic!

So much fun finding your channel! So entertaining, short and to the point, and enlightening for a rusty barely intermediate. Getting back into drums after a 12 year hiatus, being an average wannabe guitarist forever, and learning how to play drums back then from Rock Band. Nice lesson! I call it compression and expansion :D Or tension and release. cramping a lot of strokes and then the release with a few simple ones. Much like building tension with dissonance and relieving the listener with the resolution in beautiful harmonics.

Are you talking about the one all the way to the right of your screen? That's no Monophonic ride. That's a prototype (1 of 2). I have one and Benny has one. It's the closest thing I've ever heard to an old 60's K ride.

@@mikeslessons So I saw this comment and went searching for that Ted Talk, and I feel like I experienced the whole point of that talk first hand. I've been drumming for about 21 years now (since I was 6 years old) and i've never fully grasped the concept of time signatures properly until you explained it in that video. Man you truly are an amazing teacher and I can also attribute some of my growth as a drummer in my earlier years to a number of your lessons. Thank you Mike for what you are doing for the community and all the best going forward.

@@mikeslessons yep. I have been living in China for 9 years now. I play sometimes corporate events in Beijing. Me and Adam Roth tried to make a band to play festivals in China but new work regulations made things complicated. So now I just make travel videos in mostly Asia but I keep Beijing my home base for now.

@@mikeslessons but actually because of the virus I left Beijing 3 months ago. I went to Malaysia and Indonesia for 2 months and before international flights were cancelled I came back here to California to shelter in place. Now I'm thinking that I was better off staying in Beijing.
