It always makes me feel so old when I remember that I haven’t seen that area of the museum. It was still being built last time I was there. I remember the door was obviously blocked off, But my dad picked me up to peek through a window and they were hanging the whale that day, so I saw a few seconds of them working on rigging it up.

Blue whales are actually blue-gray in colour with lighter gray mottling in the form of large spots, which appear as if they were dabbed on with a huge paintbrush. Well they have no problem at swimming 25mph for miles but on average cruise along at 12 to 15 mph and swim from the top northern hemisphere down to lower southern hemisphere in the pacific 3 to 4 months and dont stop to eat since they stock up on krill before the long trip so double that time give you a ballpark figure and they are found in all the world's oceans and i believe have 3 different types of ponds of blue Wales based of what general areas they swim

In June 2015 off the Newport Beach CA coast on a whale watching trip, I was privileged to see a blue whale and watched it dive down to feed and saw how huge it's tail was as it breached the water. It came up 20 minutes later on the other side of the boat. It was a truly spiritual experience. We saw 4 different types of whales that day. Something I'll never forget.
