I had that book. Yes, it taught all the pitches and how he threw it. It was like a paper book the size of a magazine. It had all graphic drawings; no photos and it was mostly him and how he gripped the pitches and threw them. For some reason I remember the cover being red and it was again, a drawing of him in his wind up. How I wish I had all those books and magazines along with my baseball cards.

Cool story. Some people seem to live charmed lives but behind it all is drive and a ton of hard work. Congrats to both of those gentlemen. Loved Billy Bob in Goliath btw.

I would have loved to meet Bob Gibson. He's one of my favorites all time. He and Satchel Paige. I was born 10 years too late it seems.

Had to have been a thrill of a lifetime. RIP Mr Gibson. Thanks for some great baseball memories growing up in the St Louis area during the 60s and 70s.

Love this. Danny P is the best at interviews. Watch as Billy Bob Thornton just lights up telling that story. He looks so happy somebody asked questions to get him to a place to retell that story. This is great.

I was covering the MLB All-Star game in St. Louis and I was milling around in the bowels of Busch Stadium when Secret Service started yelling, "Clear the halls...now!" I didn't exactly know where to go, I was in limbo. So I jumped in the restaurant down the hall from the clubhouse. As I peeked through the crack of the door, I saw SS hustle Pres. Obama through the hallway. I was excited and said to no one in particular, "Hot damm! That was Obama! Wow!" The guy next to me said, "How cool!" It was Billy Bob Thornton.

The book in question was called "The Strike Zone" by Bob Gibson. I had that book as a kid. Sadly, during my parent's divorce, my dad tossed it. Sigh.

I just learned details not previously known about Mr. Bob “Hoot” Gibson while watching the documentary Fastball. The film attempted to hash out the fastest pitcher in history. Growing up watching Nolan Ryan and playing baseball myself. I know the game comes down to a pitcher that is successful at imposing will on the batter. They strike you out enough and it becomes a problem. They have imposed their will upon you and digging your way out of that situation can be a struggle. After watching and listening to several of these pitchers throughout history, by far Mr. Gibson struck me as the most imposing pitcher in history. Soft spoken, well versed, coupled with the fact that Mr. Gibson had faced many tribulations in life were too many people had imposed their tyrannical behavior upon Mr. Gibson. The totality explained to me that this man was hurling out his anxieties in life toward home plate and woe to the man standing in the batters box.

Billy Bob Thornton is one of the most versatile actors ever. From " Karl" in "Sling Blade" to "Truman" director of NASA in " Armageddon" is genius level.

@@williamdillard5060 excess, and lack of accountability. Only leaving a man with ego, guilt and resentment. Wish things would’ve been different. He’s a hell of an actor and character. But truly feels like someone you don’t want to be around in real life.

Baseball talk is the best. No other sports talk(to me that is) compares to hearing the legends of baseball talk about their experiences. Mantle is one of the very best to listen to. I say ‘is’ because he is still alive to me in these videos I see at places like KZitem. I could go on…
