No other movie trailer shattered my hype for a movie like the trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising did. The fact that Pacific Rim has one of the most iconic main themes out there and they replaced it with a shitty rap song for the trailer told me everything I needed to know about the movie. You know that the people making the movie just don't care when they don't even bother to use the iconic soundtrack of the original film, something as important as the sound design and score and they couldn't be bothered. That's how much they cared about making a good movie.

Well the reason why we get shitty movie posters is because the movie studios get test audiences to look at the many movie posters. Turns out that if the movie poster is a nice cartoon poster. The audience will assume it's a cartoon movie. But if you have and ugly photoshopped actor with a logo of the movie. Then people will know it's a live action movie. Basically we have shitty posters cause a small group of people can't tell if the movie is going to be live action or cartoon. Even though the studios show them a live action trailer

Uprising is the perfect textbook example of why some movies should not have a sequel, the first beatifully showed how humanity was down to it's very last chance and wrapped up the story but suddenly with Uprising they could build these Robots again willy nilly and kids in them not out of desperation but because it might look cool to the kids watching. The Terminator movies are also an example of why practical is so much better than CGI as the Puppets are so much more chilling than the CGI endos and Arnie's robotics reacting realisically rather than just painting him half green as they did in 3 and CGI'ing them in.

Not sure who told you that Jaegers are feasible IRL, but they probably need to take a second look at their notes. Simply put, there is not a material in existence that we have access to that could withstand the forces involved in moving an articulated object at that scale. The amount of torque exerted would cause the shoulders to shear off just from lifting the arms, let alone anything combat related, and that's not even getting into how many issues would arise with having them operate in environments that are either partially or wholly submerged (waterproofing, corrosion treatment and deep-sea currents to name a few). That said, Pacific Rim *does* do a fantastic job of selling the illusion that they could exist, and Guillermo del Toro should be commended for his commitment to that. Such a shame the sequel (and now the series) are ignoring what made the original so great.

My headcanon is that Pacific Rim Uprising is NOT a sequel to Pacific Rim, but is rather the equivalent to our Power Rangers but instead is in the Pacific Rim universe. For something as cataclysmic as the Kaiju coming out of the ocean and killing millions (or even billions), it wouldn't surprise me to see that people would incorporate it into cartoons or kids shows. Even in the first movie, we see that the Kaiju kind of get relegated to jokes used in late night talk shows. So having a bunch of teenagers piloting Jaegers fits more into a TV show in the Pacific Rim universe. And that's where it will sit in my head, because otherwise it's just sad to think about.
