I'm going to have to stick with Dr. David Brownstein's advice on this issue. 150 mcg of Iodine was never determined to be an optimal amount to take... rather, it was determined to be the *minimum* amount to reduce the incidence of goiters in the central US when that was a huge problem. These days we have *unlabeled* bromine added to flour products, bromine used in car upholstery, carpeting, furniture, bedding and more products. Bromine also blocks iodine receptors... so if 150 mcg of Iodine was barely acceptable back then, the need for it can only be greater these days. Lugol figured all of this out in the early 1800s.

Dr David Brownstein in his book “Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can’t Live Without It” talks about the side effects as being a result of bromine being released from receptor sites that iodine competes for. Bromide/bromide being added to things like bread to preserve it. Also used as an alternative to chlorine in pools. The bromine being released has to happen at a gradual and slow rate as it can create a crisis. If what Dr Berg said here was true, a good majority of the Japanese population would be suffering from too much Iodine. Is that true? It seems that their health is optimal compared to Americans. They typically eat a diet high in fish and seaweed.

@MrBrianDuga, the recipe listed below in this comment is the one on how to help with bromide detoxing. ( removing the bromide is so important, and it takes a while to clear the body of bromide rashes and bromide acne and bromide smell as it is released. Bromide translates to the word stench. These things show the bromide clearing. The recipe below also helps with fatigue and low mood while detoxing.) Use the recipe below to clear bromide so then the iodine can rightly go to that receptor that the bromide was occupying wrongly. Once bromide is detached from the receptor, iodine takes back its own receptor back and also chases after the bromide untill it clears out of our system through urination and sweating etc.) Recipe, to detox the bromide; drink a solution of salt, brand name, 'Real Salt' 1/4 teaspoon, with 1/2 cup filtered water, immediately following that, drink 12oz. to 16oz. of filtered water. This helps clear our bodies of bromide and it's detox symptoms. It can be used often. Salt water also helps to detox the fluoride, which needs to be released from the chloride receptor. This process allows the salt(sodium chloride) chloride can then reclaim the receptor the fluoride was blocking. We need salt for many things, we need iodine for many things. Iodine and salt help with clearing the breasts of dense fibroid tissue condition. This healing of the breast tissue seems miraculous to me, as the tissue then feels truly soft, wonderful and the breast discomfort is gone.

But the hyperthyroid symptoms only come with increase of iodine in some form. Maybe a co-factor nutrient like selenium is missing? Testing selenium (while decreasing iodine-rich seafood and seaweed in Japanese meals) so too early for me to say. Re: Doctors say no long subclinical hypothyroid but normal. The USA rda was established by using the farm animals standards, bk in the 1920's or 1930's. I do not currently recall exact dates on all that research & implementation. The 150mcg dose was the minimum daily for farm animals that were deficient & had been determined as the minimum dose for livestock, as people moved further west with animals in Late 1800s, & had issues from low iodine, as land supposedly became more depleted.. They supposedly used all the data from the livestock studies & created the Human RDA by copying the animal dose. I think I heard that story in a Dr Brownstein interview a few months bk. I think the animal study was actually in the late 1800s, & they adopted it in the 20's or 1930's, as they were clearly too lazy to do an entirely new study for humans. It seems to be generally accepted that Japanese injest about 1800mcg per day on average with their food intake, & they are healthier than Americans as a general measure of health. So there is that. Id suggest pple go watch Dr Brownstein on any number of appearances on other podcasts here on YT. Like on *_Nutrition with Judy_* I believe 8 drops of Lugos 2.5% = 25mg, & that is what the Dr generally recommends as a typical dose for a healthy adult. It varies from there with what your metabolic issues are. He also says you need sodium levels in the 140 to 141 range for iodine to be effective. I can not get mine above 138 in last few yrs, which is very bottom of scale on my doctors range. I use a lot of Redmonds Real Salt, & take a lot of Pota Chloride and 3 forms of Magnesium as well. Don't listen to anything I say. Just go watch the Doctor himself.

My body temperature increased from the upper 96 F level to the mid/upper 98 F level, and I've been able to stop taking my thyroid medication (levothyroxine) after being on it for over 10 years. My most recent labs showed that my free T3 and T4 hormones are in the normal range, my body temerature has consistently stayed in the upper normal range, and I feel great overall (I also take daily: selenium, magnesium, vitamin C, D-3, zinc, and use Real Salt liberally)! The notion of iodine toxicity is seriously overhyped - anyone with normally functioning kidneys will simply excrete any excess iodine that the cells of your body cannot utilize.

I never thought I'd watch a video from him that promotes a lot of misinformation. Get your iodine levels checked. It's the best thing you can do. But please remember that the RDA of iodine is ONLY for what your thyroid needs. Your ovaries and prostate also need adequate amounts of iodine as well, so when you are only taking the RDA for what they thyroid needs, the rest of your body is not getting what it needs. Japan actually has a significantly lower rate of thyroid disease compared to US. Hyperthyroidism has actually continuously been shown to be put into remission by the use of potassium iodide. Iodine topics are not black and white. A lot of the symptoms he describes in here is also very identical to that of estrogen dominance which guess what?! Iodine plays a huge role in hormone balance. Definitely read more about it, as much as you can without listening to just one practitioner.

I have numerous overlapping autoimmune health challenges, including genetic EDS. I also have Hashimotos Thyroiditis. In 2009, I had a thyroid storm that almost killed me. It wasn't due to iodine. Rather, my immune system briefly stopped attacking my thyroid and unbeknownst to me, started working on it's own. Meaning without me knowing it, my thyroid meds were then too high a dose, and actually became an overdose. Very scary. Had a cardioversion, but have had AFib/heart issues ever since.

So sorry you had this experience! I started taking more CoQ10 and having a lot less issues with both heart and thyroid. I have Grave's Disease and now as I age, it seems I have the low thyroid problems more often. It's difficult to balance, and all my doctors ever did was make things worse. Gotta listen to your body and write these symptoms down, even then... loss of sleep, dry skin or moist skin, etc., and I never take one supplement every day. I skip around and seem to do better that way. I do like this advice from Dr. Berg.

When a person starts on iodine they begin to remove toxins from the cells into the bloodstream and if this is faster than the kidneys can remove those toxins they can cause unwanted symptoms so if that happens it is better to reduce the dose and then pulse start slowly increasing. 200mcg BTW could hardly do much at all! But iodine itself certainly wouldn't produce those symptoms. Every cell in the body needs iodine and vitamin D.

Potassium bromate has been put in bread for 90 or more years. I'm not sure if it still is, but the body sees bromides as invaders, and bromine is in the same chemical family as iodine. It stands to reason that breads may have caused autoimmune reactions in many of us who were once commercial bread eaters. Our bodies could very well be attacking iodine, confusing it with bromine. Fortunately, my hypothyroidism is very mild.

I finally got them to at least look at the conversion issue from T4 to T3... instead of just throwing more synthroid and iodine at it. Your info here in this video might just get them to stop and think. Using Tudca has already helped on so many levels it amazed them but now, that my bile situation is better and my liver is functioning better, still such a complicated balance to get thyroid hormones in check. All the symptoms Dr Berg listed plus major fluid retention. I mention this because most medical research is conducted on males. Most % thyroid patients are female. Cookie cutter prescriptions can kill. Needless to say I immediately stopped taking this medication and I am back to my 'normal' healthy activities. @@georgiaworth6667 people low on iodine tend to show very high levels on their tests just after starting the supplementation. This is due to the adrenal glands (or something like that) not being functional - and therefore not absorbing most of the iodine. What shows in the tests, at least urin tests, is then much higher than what the body actually absorbed. Compare it to a dry sponge: in the beginning, the water will just run down on the sponge, but after a while, when the soponfe is wet, the water is absorbed. To repair the glands, one should take high amounts of Vitamin C, between 3000-10.000 MG/day along with the iodine. I got this info from the book “The Iodine Crisis” as well as online research. The problem was, I was taking so much (>200mg/daily) that it started to come out of my tissues, which only became a problem due to the fact I use a cpap at night. The cpap concentrated the iodine fumes and redirected them back into my lungs causing bronchitis, forcing me to quit both the iodine and the cpap, a miserable situation that could have been avoided had I known Dr. Abraham's recommended dosage of 13mg/daily.

A month later: the bronchitis is gone. My current regimen is 50 mg upon awakening, 25 mg before lunch and 12 mg at the end of work. This enables my tissues to outgas so that I can use the cpap again at night without issues.

In the benefits of iodine video you mentioned the RDA of 150ug is way too low, but doesn't get a mention here when talking about the RDA. Cronometer has the min - max as 150ug - 1.1mg. I get around the max from food most days and watching these videos to check it's ok long term.

Suspect an issue with the Gall Bladder… depending on which region the discomfort is coming from. Betaine HCL is good, also look at TUDCA but first try acupressure on the liver area and ACV

It’s either a low stomach acid issue created by stress or way too many carbs or a serious lack of potassium (Dr Berg made a few videos on this). Or the “beef” is coming from real sick cows from factory farming.

Don’t forget the massive dose of Iodine you get when you get a CT scan with contrast dye. The contrast dye is iodine based and can induce a Jod-Basedow effect… which is what happened to me. Absolutely terrifying!!!

I take 125mg levothyroxine. I had been struggling with anxious thoughts, palpitations and even had a panic attack. I realized this is down to the sea moss I have been taking every day. Coupled with the thyroid medication, it's just too much. Great video, right on time.

When you are on medication’s and take Iodine you need to lower your dose of the drug because your thyroid is actually looking for that Iodine.

@@sadiquaw so I think sea moss isn’t good for hyper thyroid sensitive people. I took it but the high amount of iodine created racing heart and palpitations at night. I’d warn anybody who might be sensitive not to take it

One missing piece here is time: if iodine is water soluble, how is it not likely to simply move out of the body with extra water intake? And HOW LONG does it take to reduce the high levels that are mentioned in this vid? (For example by fasting or abstention?) Thanks for the info, and more thanks if you can add this data.

I’ve been taking 2 drops of Lugols iodine daily and it has helped get thyroid level back in normal range. I’ve heard iodine can also help detox heavy metals and such from the body. Since I’ve been taking it I’ve had recurring tiny pimple-like pustules appear on my nose. My thought is maybe this is the iodine causing toxins to be released through my skin… does that sound plausible?

Iodine kicks out bromine-bromide that often comes out through the skin. Best to do 'salt loading' of 1/4 to 1/2 tsp salt i 16-20 ounces water until you urinate very well. You can do this up to 3 times a day and for 4-5 days to push bromine-bromide out through the kidneys without having skin eruptions or sometimes flu-like symptoms. This is recommended by several highly qualified iodine MDs.

@@1charlastar886 I used 2% Lugol's solution on my 3-year-old son, and he developed black spots on his legs. Weeks later, they disappeared on their own, but his lymph nodes are still swollen and have lumps. I used 5% Lugol's solution for a year, consuming 5-6 drops and applying it directly to my skin. Now, all the lymph nodes in my neck are swollen, and I have thyroid nodules. I'm really afraid of developing papillary cancer. Could this be due to bromide's effect or iodine poisoning? What should I do? Doctors haven't been able to provide any clear answers. PLease help me!
