Playing Gears 3 the first time and witnessing this scene coupled with Marcus crying broke a lot of fans all over the world. Tai was certainly a tough gear who managed to survive in the war against the locusts but even the toughest of souls can reach a breaking point. After being captured by the locusts, he likely endured tremendous horrors and when Marcus handed him the shotgun, Tai decided to end his suffering with the sweet release of death. The brutality of war isn’t always on the battlefield but also for those unfortunate souls who become prisoners of war, of which they are at the mercy of their captors and endure tremendous horrors. So by the time Marcus and his squad found Tai, he was already dead but made it real once Marcus handed him a shotgun and ended his suffering.

Its always a tragedy losing a brother in arms. The carmines are our fallen angels and cole remembering the old days makes you think, who were they all before the war. They weren't all soldiers in the pendulum wars and cole shows us what we might all become in these situations. We fight for our survival whilst losing a part of ourselves. Losing dom was a blade to us all and i even cried a little which i normally dont do. The worst part is seeing bird and cole hearing it and didnt even get to say goodbye. But his sacrifice like many other gears gave humanity a second chance. The gears tory should have ended here and the rest of the games should have been the pendulum wars. A way of honouring the fallen. But the gears trilogy are my favourute and the ofhers i can care less for, theyre okay but for a story these three are my games.

I could be wrong but, something i feel like that doesnt get talked about much is even though Benjamin was considered the runt of the Carmine brothers, he managed to hang on to life after, falling presumably atleast a dozen feet into a rift worm, have his insides eaten out to his spine, amd dragged into acidic spikes. Even though he didnt live, he still managed to cling to life long enough to get out some final words. The kid was tougher than he was given credit for

I remember playing gears 1 with my Father; and seeing Tai’s death as a child, I remember being so confused because that was my very first depiction of suicide ever. I was so sad and confused, I remember frantically asking my Father, “why did he do that? Why did he do that!?”. Even he could not explain that to a child, scene still makes me sad thinking about how that actually happens to prisoners of war. Respects to our fallen troops and our COG protagonists❤

I love how you say "before we get to the inevitable" was always going to be the number one saddest death! don't think a video game has ever gone that hard even with FF7 being a contender!

While Doms death shook me emotionally. Tais death rattled me to my core because with Gears 2 being my first gears game, it really opened my eyes to the horrors of war, more specifically what the locust do to their prisoners. Seeing this unstoppable juggernaut of man become a broken shell and the only way he could end his suffering was cocking that gnasher still shakes me to this day.

Them playing the instrumental to mad world when dom dies fucking gets me every time. I remember first seeing the very first trailer of gears of war and loving that song. Playing the games and going through it with dom. Now he dies, I hear the song again and it’s heart breaking

Dom: Marcus I dont know what to do? I dunno what to do man? Marcus: Dom its ok Hits me everytime, even the look that Dom gives Marcus as he's holding Maria is just done brilliantly, this was Gears at its peak.

I always felt that Cole was loosely based on Patrick Tillman, whom was in the NFL (cardinals) but left to enlist in the army following the 9/11 attacks. The official ‘cause of death’ was friendly fire in 2004 and the first gears game came out in 2006.

I got the opportunity to meet Lester Speight (voice actor for Cole) and Carlos Ferro (voice of Dom) at a local con. Lester is a gentle giant of a man, Seeing him nerd out about the games and characters as much as me about the franchise was amazing. Carlos is humble and well spoken, he gave a wide grin when i mimiced the well known " 'sup bitches?" He was glad to hear about my dad and I bonded over this game franchise. Both of those guys talked with my dad and I for near half an hour and signed the figures I had of their characters. That memory is something ill never forget.
