That has been a main thing for me, I didn't want items in my home that are a pain to dust. For example, I was using a bookshelf for a tv stand, and all those pieces were so time consuming to dust. I decided a tv stand where everything is stored inside and nothing but the tv on top was much easier on me and the look/feel of the room!

This was really well done. I have found it to be true that I feel more free and more focused owning fewer items. My husband and I have been married for 29 years. I began decluttering at least five years ago, so our attics and crawl space are empty. We have a few items of ours in the basement, as well as boxes of items that belong to our kids, some of whom haven't quite settled into their adult lives. But what still "hangs over my head", so to say, are the five bins of family photos on a closet shelf. They are organized for the most part, but I need to do a final purge, which will be very time consuming. I'm planning to pick out the best, scan them, and order some photo books. My kids and grandkids will have less to deal with when I'm gone, and will enjoy going through the books. I'll feel much lighter after this job is done. Thanks for linking to John and Stuart! I'm subscribing to both!

I love the "making photo books" approach! My mom was photo obsessed and I was always raised to NEVER throw out photos, even if it is a blurry photo of someone's neighbor dressed up for a halloween party...it has taken a lot, but I am finally down to one small box of loose photos and all of them that matter to me are in books. So rewarding to have them put together in a way that makes them accessible.

This weekend, on Feb 9, the day before my 50th birthday, I experienced a Tibetan Bowl Ceremony. It was the greatest decluttering I have ever achieved. I released guilt and doubt from my youth and from the years raising my children. This was an area that seemed to be impossible to get rid of; yet, I finally was able. Sara, thank you for helping me to release some much of my physical clutter over the last two years which helped create the energy to complete this last area of decluttering/cleansing.

I am in awe at this collaboration. All three of you are such great speakers with such insight into the topic. Ron and Stuart weren't on my radar but I'm off to check them out! Time for myself and my family was what drew me to minimalism. We had too many toys, books and just THINGS that I thought were needed to make happy memories, but those were in fact preventing us from our goal. Being in the present is something I still need to work on. I think it's more of a mental clutter for me in that I have trouble saying no but I'm working on it. Thank you, thank you so much for your message! I need to now watch it again 😂

Hooray 😊! I have been following you for quite a while. I like your practical approach to minimalism. It helps to keep me grounded in my journey. I've also been following Ron for a few weeks..... It took longer for him to hit my KZitem radar, so I am very pleased that you're bringing more awareness to his channel. I like to get a variety of approaches to find what works best for me. I don't know that I am quite ready to face Stuart's path, but I think I may find it valuable in the future so thanks for the introduction. I am a 3rd (probably more) generation hoarder and having a mother who grew up in the war and very environmentally conscious my upbringing was about holding on to the things that could be useful, preventing waste, being frugal and future proofing my existence. It was quite a mindset to overcome. I still use these core values but try to apply them in a less materialistic way. Though my mother still struggles with this occasionally, she is also on a decluttering journey based on the Swedish Death cleaning method so we support each other with our different approaches.

I started decluttering during lockdown a 2 bedroom apart and ended up throwing/recycling at least 50% of my stuff. After lockdown i continued drawer by drawer until all the house was done.I found a new place a smaller place where i feel way better and moved only the stuff that made the cut.I still declutter each Sunday and it's amazing how much more stuff I still have to give away/recycle.Like u said in the video i was holding on to stuff that I considered I might still use but ended up not so I went ahead and let it go.I still have so much to do before I am a true minimalist but so happy with the progress.

Hi Sarah. Hope you and Jake are well. Thank you so much, once again for another great video. Enjoyed Ron and Stuart's videos too and have subscribed. I totally agree with you about getting rid of things not on the first go. I have gone back to things, not straight away, but when I have, I have wondered why on earth I was keeping it and have put it into the donate or recycling pile! Sometimes it's the third or fourth time I have gone back! I had a weigh in on Monday and have lost 19kg since last March! So I am over the moon. I still have a long way to go. I am classing the weight loss as part of my decluttering and eating much better now. I did what Stuart did and gave up alcohol last March too. My liver has been improving. The cause of my NAFLD was not through alcohol though, but through prescription medications that were prescribed by my Doctor for over twenty years for many ailments. I gave up all meds last March too Stuart! I do agree about doing things you love without feeling guilty. I love reading and making cards, but only read for a short while at night in bed before I go to sleep. I havent made a card for months. I hope to get back to it soon when I have decluttered lots more!! I do so believe in the Angels. I learnt how to Reiki myself and do agree with Stuart about what you believe in. I even ask them to find us a parking space sometimes and cannot believe how it works! Positive thinking is a good thing, if you can. Reiki taught me to get rid of negative thoughts, people and things from all aspects of my life. It's not always possible for everyone all of the time though. Silence is good too. If I am on my own, I never have music or the TV on now. It is so true, we have many mementos from events like holidays! Why?? I dont know! I liked what Ron said too. I am pretty much a vegetarian now, but can honestly see myself becoming a vegan at some point in the near future. I do think I need to try to live without milk, cheese and eggs. And finally, I am really hoping that I will be able to live more in the present once I have decluttered some more. We miss out on so much. So if you havent fallen asleep with my comments, Sarah, I would just like to thank you once again for everything. Take care. Love Deb xx

It has def made room for more hobbies and creativity. And yes. Organically as if flowers just kind of keep springing up out of the ground. Lol. Also integrating it with my home life. Just enjoying refinishing my furniture and painting various things around here and making it a lot more “me” and every time I use the piece of furniture or enter a room I worked on, I feel a lot more pride in all my “handiwork.” And it’s just like more and more positive reinforcement about more and more better or more “suitable for me” possibilities. Lol. It sure beats looking at a bunch of clutter and feeling bad about that all the time. The hobbies also just naturally become more fun than sitting around scrolling all the time on social media or binging on tv and so on.

So you get flags, snow globes, etc. Now with iPhones you can take great pictures of the place and some with family and friends. It gives you more pleasure when you look back at the photos. You might even have a couple that you want to frame . If you need to buy I limit it to one item that I am pretty sure I can use.

But joyous when the shows go on! Love your channel have a great weekend!

Thank you, Brooke! Congrats on your theater company! This is a trickier situation, but my best thoughts would be to see if you can store them in hidden spaces, such as under a bed or coach (in tubs or boxes of course). Or, if there is not space there, maybe place them in the least used or least trafficked room of the house? Good luck!

I need to find some minimalist moms videos because these videos are awesome and all but when you have a family ; two girls & one on the spectrum ; managing a simple life can be a bit challenging.

Irma Cortez I'm strongly recommending Scandish Home and Shannon Torrens. I didn't find Minimal mom to be an honest minimalist, I think she's doing it for the money. Darci Isabella is great to but a little all over the place.

Do you have any tips on decluttering my language? I had to study for a standardized test and i have been struggling to get rid of all those fancy words. Huge fan btw.

Thanks, Jorge! I have to say that no one has ever asked me this question before and I'm not sure I have much of an answer, besides spending more time with kids, since it would lead you to make different choices about the words you use. That might just be the teacher in me saying that haha

Jorge, a movement called 'Plain Language' may interest you. It is designed to reduce the ambiguity and complexity that often creep into our speech and writing. I have applied it in my work with internationally educated professionals whose first language is not English. It has helped me to be more mindful in my personal communication, too. There are many resources online.

I feel my space is cleaner more often because there was less clutter. It technically is as “dirty” as it always was. I still only clean the space as frequently as I always did. However, the space itself looked less cluttered. The reason for this was twofold. First, I had decluttered a lot so there was just less “stuff” that kept a permanent home in most areas. But 2nd, the amount of clutter that I left in each space that didn’t belong there was less because since there was less permanent clutter in each area, it made my accidental “clutter” more obvious. For example, my keys belong in an area in my bedroom. But sometimes I put them down on my dining room table when I walk into my house. I also sometimes put down the mail on this table. Since decluttering this space, it is very obvious when I walk into this room if I leave my keys or mail in this space. It screams - These don’t belong here! Where belong when I hadn’t decluttered they were just part of the clutter in the room.

These are great insights, Alexa! I can relate to when something is out of place and it becomes a lot more clear when there are fewer things.

I clean more frequently than I did before. It's so much easier to do it when you don't have so much to move or get around.

This is why I keep losing things! I want to instantly declutter, even though I know it isn't possible. But that's one of the things that puts me off - the slow process. Yet, if I had started this when I first found out about decluttering, I would be living a more organized and harmonious life - right now! There's no time like the present!
