I recently saw a video that talks about what the Normandy veterans do each year to honor our soldiers that fell in the D-Day invasion. They take sand from the beach and rub it on the tombstones. It causes the writing and symbols to shine like gold in sunlight. It makes reading the names easy. They do this to honor the soldiers who helped give them freedom.

This brought tears. My uncle was in the 29th ID…on Omaha, my Dad was in the Pacific. All the brothers went; and all came home. Broken, battered and changed, but came home. They are all gone now, but this greatest generation is in God’s loving arms. And I believe the Lord is playing Glenn Miller for them. +

Your amazing video is a testament to the valor of these brave men who truly deserved The Medal Of Honor, but you left out one man & that was Audie Murphy. Even though he became a famous actor after the war, he still won the Medal Of Honor at the young age of 19. He too was wounded & out of ammunition, & single-handedly held-off a company of German soldiers for an hour at the Colmar Pocket in France in January 1945. As the world knows, he became the most highly decorated soldier in U.S. history. This brave man deserved to be included in your video & it's not too late to edit & acknowledge his heroism.

As a fellow veteran, [ 1976 -1980 ] I'm stunned at how many MOHs were awarded during the Normandy Assault Landings! When I used to work at the VARO, I had the honor 🎖 of meeting a retired USAF Colonel who wrote a book about his Vietnam War experiences called " Bravest of The Brave ", and met two US Army soldiers from Afghanistan. Together, they held off an attack from Taliban and Al Queda fighters hitting the US Army FOB from high mountain cliffs; amazingly, they held them off despite being wounded; rocketed, mortared and relentlessly shot at. Finally, air support arrived and destroyed the remaining attackers; they brought out the wounded and the dead , I believe! Unbelievable courage, bravery, and raw guts !

Nice job on the D-Day heroes. I really enjoy your posts even though many bring tears to my eyes. I have not seen anything on Butch O’Hare, the Navy’s first Ace and namesake for Chicago’s Airport, and notorious about his father being a Mob lawyer who was killed by the Mob. Also, I have a small request. June 10 is the 81st anniversary of the sinking of USS Maddox (DD-622) during the Invasion of Sicily. My uncle (Proctor Poe) died on that ship. Not much is known of my uncle, the ship’s Commander, Eugene S. Sarsfield, saved the lives of 74 crewmen before going down with the ship. I wouls love to learn more about it. Thank you. Steve Russell

Today is a date all Americans send prayers to those who risked their lives to rid of tyranny throughout world. Men, and women around our great nation responded the call to take up arms. Americans knew our freedoms is so important to our way of life. They said goodbye to their families with tears streaming down their cheeks, and set off to preserve, protect, and defend our constitution. In 1945 Democracy prevailed, from the blood of those who gallantly fought for it. Today our Democracy is at risk from a convicted felon tyrant. So to all Americans together let's preserve, protect, and defend Democracy at the ballot box this November 5th. Let us show to the world that our children's future is what they deserve. I'm a U.S. Marine veteran, and our D-Day is November 5, 2024. To all our Armed Forces stationed around our great planet. Take care of one another, be safe wherever you go. God Bless You All!!

One point often overlooked about Teddy Roosevelt Jr. was his heart condition which he kept hidden from the doctors. Had they known about it, he would have been sent home. His devotion to his men was such that he became a dead man walking from the moment he limped off the landing craft with his cane at Utah Beach. I don't think he would have wanted it any other way.

I'd like you to check out William Edward Boatman, 36th Division, 141st battalion, who was a member of the "Lost Battalion" of World War II. His valor was equal to these men, but he was awarded the Silver Star. That was, I am certain, because general Dahlquist was criminally negligent in his command. Also, when meeting the Nisei who rescued Bill's unit after his sacrifice, Dahlquist disgraced himself further... in front of the press... with his reaction. My uncle literally killed a truckload of Waffen SS in a hopeless situation in order to give his fellow soldiers a chance at survival. And had he not made the choice he did, that film, Go For Broke, would never have been made. You see, they all would have been killed or captured. By the way, both Hitler and Eisenhower had a personal interest in this action.

Man, The Big Red 1 really represented, especially if you consider that both Roosevelt Jr. on Utah Beach, and Cota on Omaha Beach had both served as two of its most senior ranking officers prior to D-Day. I dont feel like Roosevelt's upgrade was Political in nature, without him (in the first wave) that beach head wouldve taken much longer to establish. Matt Urban is also in a category with AudienMurphy, and John Basilone, I agree, and don't understand why hes so overlooked.

Truly breathtaking accounts of so many men with such uncommon Valor that it seemed common, but was anything but that. It is staggering to think of all these tender young men being forged in the fires of such fierce combat and so many of these Medal of Honor recipients were wounded multiple times and yet persisted to perform above and beyond their duty to save and secure the safety of their brothers and take out the enemy, many sacrificing themselves to achieve these brave feats of service. Thank you, TDIH for commemorating these distinguished American Heroes on the Anniversary of D-Day. God bless and rest every one of these devoted, selfless, men of honor and pure guts. Friends we must not forget them & every serviceman who participated in the landings as they are all heroes. Not afraid of fear they went forward & got the job done which they did for future generations. Lest we forget.

The Greatest generation wasn't just the greatest generation.....they were made of different sterner stuff. Many of us would not be here but for their sacrifice. God bless each and everyone of them.

Please get your facts straight. President Trump NEVER said what the media claims he said. He has done /did more for the military than Biden, Obama and George Bush. Trump 2024

Love. Love makes a man do counterintuitive things. A man's love for his brothers is parallel to a mother's love for her children.
