I reckon matty gets sad/annoyed with the fact everyone asks him to play this live he was in a dark place and he said he simply cannot play it live without breaking down as much as I adore and cherish this song I respect it. He created art but for now he just wants to hang it up not sell it

I think he explained this song in an interview when they were in Brussels. He said he wrote it when he was 19 and he realized that he was an atheist and how he's jealous of people who have faith. He said it's also kind of about the relationship with his mom. But regardless of why he wrote it, the song can mean anything you want it too.

who is he referring to here?
@lindag5851
4 жыл бұрын
1. Maybe God: was it six days of "work [that] appears so rushed" or 2. I'm thinking the antichrist is the ghost with the blood all over his hands. The repetition at the end makes me think of "I wash my hands of this" in the killing of Christ as well as of communion but for some reason someone is washing the mouth and hands of blood: it would be indicative of someone who doesn't want the religion. So if the song is called antichrist and it reaches over to reference these religious services would that make the "ghost" a human or THE antichrist? From looking at other people's comments, I connect that Matty wrote this song partly about his mom's relationship to him. So maybe all the "he's" are himself. I find this interpretation a little strange with the word wife used in the beginning. ["keep it in your cells spill it in mine"-family or God made each human, and the humans end up as criminals and liars? Does that not make life terrifying to live through? The idea of an antichrist is inherently connected with God/Jesus. Separately, the antichrist is connected with atheism because of the discussion on the outside.] The lyrics are not always so straightforward in following he's and she's (and I's) all the way through, and all the ideas from Matty talking about the song's meaning are mixed.

This song would be amazing for the ending of a movie, where the characters separate and go their own ways. they are each going their own ways, filled with fear and maybe even no hope for the future, due to the past, but like the ending, its a new awakening.

I went to their concert last night and this guy made a sign that said "play antichrist". Matty saw it and said "I'll address your sign", and something along the lines of "but I cannot play it. You're a true fan for writing this though, and I love you for that."

I first listened to this song when I was just beginning to second guess my faith in God/the religion I was brought up in. It made me realize I don’t believe in it the same as everyone else because I don’t feel anything coming from this God that is supposed to exist. I consider myself agnostic now, but this song still makes me cry for what was lost and found.

One of my all time favorites. I think this song along with "ME", "Women", "102" and "Is There Someone who can watch you" are really raw to who he is and what he has gone through. I absolutely love them and I hate reading negative comments about what an awful band or personalities they are. Honestly, anyways that has met them will agree with me that they are the most humbled and sweetest people ever. I got the opportunity to talk with Matty about religion and politics, and I mean who the fuck can say they can talk to their music idols about such topics. Not a lot of people. This band has a purpose and stand for something, they dont care what anyone thinks. People are going to be mind blown when their 2nd album goes out. Cant wait to see them for a third time this yr in Nov. its a diff experience every single time.

I feel like I'm just treading water. Is it the same for you? Is it the same for you? Well he comes and he goes, so capricious. And his work appears so rushed. Well I love the house that we live in. This band was so prominent during a dark time in my life that when I listen to the lyrics now I just understand them so much more. I can still appreciate and love this band even when I'm no longer relating to their lyrics. It's so important that the people who hear these songs and relate to them know something; it does get better and one day you will listen to these songs with appreciation and love. You will reflect on the sad times and be happy for them. Hard times build you as a person and you will find happiness.

Man I play this song once every 2 or 3 years and it makes me cry every single time. The first few second fill me with so much dread and anxiety but then it feels like I’m thrust in front of some of my demons and I’m forced to talk to them. Then I rip off their masks and I see myself under them. There’s not many songs that provoke this much emotion from me, but this is amongst the very top.
