I think it would be really interesting to see how 1975 would interpret this as a studio cover with their current sound.

This definitely isn't actually them, they may have been Coheed fans but this sounds nothing like them, especially the vocals which are far lower pitched and much grittier than Matty from The 1975. Idk why the uploader decided to say this is The 1975 but it 100% is not.

One of my favourite songs, and a nice cover, actually. I still love Coheed, but their live performances are just way too clean and polished, but this feels way more raw and energetic, even if the vocalist can't hit the high notes ;)

@@queensinthesky can confirm this is Matty, I asked him back in 2014 after a show because both the 1975 in Coheed and Cambria have been and are still my favorite band. Drive like I do originally was intended to be a pop punk band much like this style, they rebranded as the 1975 through their record deal and were shaped into the first albums sound. This is super super early in their career.

The bass line just doesn't flow the way it should. It's staccato where it isn't meant to be, like the opposite of the opening to Trains Drops of Jupiter (which sounds great on acoustic guitar but terrible on piano imo)

People shit on this song like every single musical (re)creation has to be immaculate and perfect, which made even more ironic by the fact Matty was so young here and they’re probably shitting on a 15-17 year old who’s trying new things and finding his style.
@danihelios

Assuming Matty is the vocalist? (I don't really know the 1975 too well) I actually like how he's trying to interpret it, he's not singing in Claudio's range or trying to rip it off, and I think his energy is pretty fiery, that being said, I think a lot of this isn't just about the vocals, and I knew so many people when I was 15-17 who could play their instruments so much better than here. When a lot of people are 15 their voices are still changing but the instrumental, they just should have practiced more before recording it

Yikes. They don't have the chops for this song. You gotta be able to swing from melodic to hard vocals on a dime and have a much broader range to nail Claudio's. He's one of the most dynamic vocalists of our time and you'll only be painted in a negative comparison if you try to do his stuff on anything more than an amateur or hobbyist capacity. Appreciate the homage, it's such a great song, but your style really doesn't compliment the music.
