The 1995 F-150 with a 4.9 I-6 engine has a max tow rating of 5,300 Pounds. With the 5.0 V8 it is 6,800 pounds. With the 5.8 it is 7,200 pounds. Newer trucks are like 3/4 ton trucks from the 90s. I see you also have 33 or 35 inch tires. This changes your overall gearing to a lower rear end ratio. Think of it like like riding up hill in the wrong gear on you bicycle. You had to pedal harder in the wrong gear on a hill. I hope this helps. I love how clean your truck is. Keep it forever. I should have never sold my 95 with the 4.9 I-6 with the manual transmission.

Much of the trouble you are having is due to the oversized tires on that truck. If you have the stock 3:55 gearing in the truck and you swapped those larger tires on there you have just changed the rear gearing to about a 2:90. Not even close to ideal for towing. Put the stock size tires on it and it will be a whole different animal. Big tires and lifts look kool, but don't work for chit in a towing situation.

I have 4:10 gears sitting in the garage. Felt like if I was to install them on it would be too low geared for day-to-day driving
@lonefishnone4958
Жыл бұрын
@@RobsGarageKC It all depends on the tire size. I don't know if you are running 31's or 33's. On your truck the 3:55 gears were standard being a 4 wheel drive. Stock tire size was P235/75R15. By adding the larger diameter tires it affectively lowers the gear ratio. Thats what makes it slow off the line and seems like it is laboring to get the truck out of the hole and moving. When you add the larger tires you also need to counter that effect by raising the rear gear ratio to keep things in sync. If you are running 33's with the 4:11 gears using the stock parameters as a base line, the final drive ratio would equate to somewhere around 3:70. That would help out your towing situation tremendously and still be a very livable ratio for street driving. Out of the hole acceleration would be slightly better than stock but your gas milage would not suffer as a result due to the overdrive tranny.

C4 auto with 3 gears that probably can run 85 to 90 in second gear. Yea I'm sure it pulls great at 35mph lol maybe some bigger tires would help LOL!!!
