Met Sonia O'Sullivan at a nike camp last year She told us the story of this race and mentioned that she ran the course the day before and remembered the opening by the finish line, which none of the other competitors knew about

In addition to dominating cross-country in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, John Ngugi was perhaps the gutsiest 5000-meter runner of all time. He’d be an excellent subject for a RunnerBoi video.

2007 and 1996 are by far my favorites. Tergat makes the strongest move I have ever seen in cross country in 1996, and 2007 was the most chaotic meet all the way through. Every race was just the craziest atmosphere

Not sure where you got your info about Sonia's XC experience but you've really underestimated it, she was very experienced. Sonia won the Irish Senior championship at just 17, ran XC for Villanova in the NCAA, in fact she twice won the NCAAs XC and also raced the 1992 World XC in Boston, finishing 7th as a 22 yo. The World Cross was a race she said she always had an interest in winning in her career.

I knew she raced in the NCAA, but in terms of her professional career, I did somehow miss her 1992 result while comparing her and Paula Radcliffe's track records against each other. Apologies for that.

@@RunnerBoi Fair enough in terms of a pro career but I'm terms of racing nous, 2 NCAA titles show you know how to run on grass. I think Sonia started spendin her off seasons in Australia around the mid 90s, which probably lead to XC dropping off her radar for a while.
