In a thought-provoking fireside chat, Central Bank Payments Conference Chair Jean-Michel Godeffroy and Ulrich Bindseil Infrastructure and Payments at the European Central Bank discussed the ways in which monetary policy implementation has been impacted by payment system transformations and how this core central bank mandate could be impacted by CBDCs and other innovations in the future.
Maha El Dimachki, Head of the Singapore Centre, spoke about the Bank for International Settlements - BIS Innovation Hub’s current projects on CBDCs and next-generation FMIs that have the potential to revolutionize the future payments landscape, such as Projects Nexus, Mandala, and Mariana.
The final panel session of the day tackled some of the most pressing issues around the G20’s cross-border payments roadmap, including public-private partnerships, AML/CTF requirements, and interoperability. A lively debate featuring Dirk Bullmann (CLS Group), Sonja Davidovic (BIS Innovation Hub), Buna (The Arab Regional Payments Clearing and Settlement Organization)’s Mehdi Manaa, Alan Marquard (Mastercard), and Anubhav Sharma (NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL).
