Very good points that need to be reconsidered.. May be the local fundis are quite traditional and didnt try to go with the finishing trends.... Even some of these works cost higher price, like putting several paint colors in the house instead of one color... For me, i disregard the hand washing sink in the dining area... i see it is not necessary to have it in he dining area specially when you have kids and the open the tap every time and water splashes on the floor. The sink in the guest toilet is enough

Nailed it. Another one is having tiles meant for indoor use, outdoors. These tiles are very slippery and unsafe especially for kids and the elderly. No greenery, no trees especially in smaller compounds in the city. Having concrete or cabro painted in loud colors with no grass or shrubs, etc has no curb appeal. It gets dusty, wet, or muddy.

Grew up in a storeyed home and I absolutely can't stand them. I'd rather have 2 wings on the same level maybe split-level. One wing is exclusively features the Master suite.😊

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! You ticked all the boxes for don'ts in a house today. My worst being the multi-coloured tiles, concrete kitchen cabinets, especially when they're tiled and the ugly sinks in the dining room...

Lol...this was too hilarious, got to the point about crawling the walls like a lizard just to find the bed and had to checkout the comment section😂. Very good points you mentioned! One observation I've come across more than often, is building a huge house on a relatively small piece of land. I've seen unimaginable things to home/ house ownership that I can no longer pass judgement lol. My take is, as long as one is happy with their creation and enjoying it, then it's all good I guess 😂 Good one!

❤❤ almost all of those points. I cannot stand homes with a thousand sofa sets. I get it for older folks who've been in the village for years but homes built past 90's even some past 2000 should not have some of these designs you mentioned. But our peeps are hard to convince away from "standard" features

I am with you on the colors!! As neutral as possible and the same color all through the home! Because people at home do not know the difference between lemon and yellow for instance! Also with the bedrooms!!! I prefer more living space to sleeping spaces! People live outdoors at home so why so many bedrooms? I am not sure where the colored lights idea come from? I cannot get over them in homes? We also have a reception area - like a porch - with outdoor sitting and comfortable so we can receive people outside OR they will be offended if they feel that you didn't think they were good enough to come in! Generally we prefer function and simplicity in the village! Anything complex creates problems with maintenance. We also do not have bath tubs, just showers! We have seen people use them as soaking receptacles for clothes! Such a great video!

Biodigester doesn’t work in every environment! It doesn’t work where bacteria utilization is low! They work better is swampy or modestly well draining soils! Failure rate is higher in certain soils specifically where the soil profile is rocky.

@@WuonOdidi great presentation though! Left Kenya 32 years ago and recently working on reconnecting so your topics resonate very well with my reconnection efforts! I do engineering in the states and have found that most ideas conceived in the West almost always fail on arrival in Africa when little details are left out! The biodigester is one of those that you can learn on with great economic impact if not advised properly. 58 days left to arrive +254

🤣🤣 you're cracking me up with this list of design trends that makes me want to politely sip my chai elsewhere. I'm 100% with you on this. * Sinks in the dining room is an absolute NO 😱 * The toilet inside the shower or shower inside the toilet without a pony wall is crazy to say the least.😅 * The shallow wardrobes 😮 * The squeezed-in kitchen. * Steep staircases and narrow hallways. * The awkward adult bedroom layouts that has your bed against the wall. ( If it's a room with 2 beds it's fine) If there were no security issues, I would get rid of burglar proof wrought-iron bars on the windows.
