Awesome episode. I was 9 during the 2000 election. I think saying, "I don't understand, if Gore got the most votes, doesn't that mean he won the election?" and then having my parents explain the electoral college to me was an early radicalizing moment.

Nice job, as always. There's a funny song Al Gore Lives on My Street, with a guy singing about how he can't believe Al Gore isn't furious knowing he lives down the street from him when he could've been President living in the White house. The excellent Michael and Us podcast used to use it as kind of a theme song.

Really appreciate these political episodes because you guys explain this stuff in a concise, digestible way and makes me want to read more about it. Looking forward to the inevitable coverage of the 2004 election, first one I ever paid attention to as a young teen (Howard Dean screech).

will definitely happen at some point. Ya, I don't know why people overcomplicate stuff. Until I read those books, I assumed it was some complex legal issue, in reality it basically just "will we be able to count intent from undervotes/overvotes"

Major oversight: not mentioning Gores posture/power stance coaching. this is the time period that introduced "alpha male" and dominating the frame to American maleness.

Congratulations on 50 episodes! Dave Barry had a funny political book, Dave Barry Hits Below the Beltway, about politics. It's kind of vaguely libertarian (he recommends PJ O'Rourke for an insightful look at politics), but the last two chapters about the 2000 election are particularly hilarious. The penultimate chapter isn't even really about politics; he just tells ridiculous stories about Florida under the guise of saying it's no wonder Florida was the state that messed up election night given how crazy it is.

I had a crust punk roommate who's still a great friend and is in his mid 40s, was homeless for 20 years and threaded the needle (noticed the pun while writing) between heroin addict and activist. He's got some confusion regarding the New Wolrd Order thing and beyond thar he was weirded out that Globalization had become a Jewish consipracy as well, which I've heard plenty as well. So i think even Globalization is out as a term because people just say capitalism or neoliberalism now. And it's not that mysterious l, right wing weirdos latch onto pre existing terminology to tweak it their way and progressives have, yknow, progressed and have more accurate terms cause we figure more stuff out over 25 years or so

I forgot you were my countrymen and if I can suggest an episode that might be fun to do but would probably get less views, the CanCon of the 2000s. You could easily spend 40 minutes on Nickelback alone, the rise to martyrdom of the Tragically Hip guy (I've never understood the appeal of em), Juno was covered but sorta counts, if trailer park Boys come into mention my comments will be very dense because I grew up in Dartmouth ns, Harper and most importantly Corner Gas.

You don't need to be a lawyer yourself to understand why the Attorney General would get involved in a court case because the Attorney General of the United States is a lawyer. Hence why the word "Attorney", which is a word that means "Lawyer", is in the job title.
