That’s because they’re a small & niche company. They don’t have a lot of dealer network. I have to drive 1.5 hr to get to my closest Mazda dealer while every major dealership Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Ford/ Chevy /VW/ Mercedes/ BMW/ CarMax/ Lincoln/ Lexus/ Acura are literally 10-15 mins away & they’re all in the same area & very close proximity. For some reason all they have only one financing option that’s 0% 36 mo. Everyone offers atleast 0-1% 48 months.That is just horrible & that’s the reason I went with honda. Also they won’t budge on offering any incentives or discounts unless you’re in the military. Personally I wanted to get a Mazda & those were the things that held me from getting one.

This is a car, not an entertainment hub. Do you have to change the chanels, settings, volume every 2 minutes ? And passengers should not change driver's setting at all ,as it's the most enoying & distracting thing ever. And if they are allowed to and have to, they can use bluetooth and play with their phones, which they would do anyway. Matt, you're a big fan of mazda's manual gear box, based on your previous video. How much more distracting is it , bearing in mind you have to handle it every few seconds, to the infotainment joystick, that if you're reasonable enough, doesn't have to be touched for hours.

I get the complaints on some aspects, the dashboard being one of them. However, Mazda has done a crap ton of research into distractions and how people operate in a vehicle. I've watched their entire 3 hour long press briefs before concerning these factors. And while you may not personally agree with some of them, non-touch screen info system and open of center console, I could promise they have a valid reason why.
@MattMaranMotoring
4 жыл бұрын
I sat through the 3 hour press briefs too. They explain very well why they made the choices, and while I can see people eventually getting used to the infotainment, I’ll never understand the armrest. Like we demonstrated, it’s simply a bigger shoulder stretch for anyone unless you’re super tall and have the seat pushed all the way back.
@thatoneguy77ish
4 жыл бұрын
@@MattMaranMotoring The argument could be made that the armrest isn't designed to be accessed while operating the vehicle anyways. Only when stationary. So while the overall design might be in question, the comment of "it being a distraction" was more what I was referring to. Really shouldn't be digging through an armrest at 50 mph anyways so I didn't think the term distraction made much sense.
@MattMaranMotoring

I agree, but I think it's just as difficult to use when parked, like we were in this video.
@thatoneguy77ish
4 жыл бұрын
@@MattMaranMotoring "Difficult to operate" or "additional step not needed" instead of "distraction" would have been more appropriate as distraction leads a person to believe it is conjunction with the operation of the vehicle. As stated by the earlier observation of using the infotainment system being more of a distraction because of the additional steps by only having access to 5 operations per level of data on the screen at a time. I get how this is purely semantics at this point. But going off the video title "Luxurious but Quirky" it leads viewers to believe that the vehicle interior is exactly that, quirky. When it is really simply safety and driver focused. Why wouldn't the infotainment screen be more angled towards the driver since a vehicle will only have a single person in the vehicle a majority of the time? Driver's shouldn't have 50 different selectable items on a info screen as it distracts from what's important, the road. Etc, etc... Same reason why they do not place any additional information on the main console except for important info like speed, fuel, etc. It's all driver and safety focused. For a vehicle interior that completely crushes anything in it's price class, I think the term "quirky" was an odd choice along with some of the critiques. Am I being a tad picky? Yup. That's because an auto manufacture like Mazda that spends time, money, and effort into what's important should be praised about doing what other, larger, auto manufactures are failing to do. Bring value to the consumer on all aspects. While Honda and Toyota, keep bringing out the cheap econo boxes with fake air intakes and and literally no innovations, Mazda is doing things like an interior that competes with much higher price segments and Sky Active-X engine that further pushes the limits of what gasoline engines can produce. Last great engine development was Honda and it's Vtech. Since then, nothing really great or inspiring. So yep, I'll take a moment and champion a good company like Mazda as opposed to the status quo of Toyota and Honda which are sold in the millions because people are loyal and blind all at the same time. Btw, while the armrest could be considered an "annoying/unnecessary" feature, you should have mentioned the piano black plastic bits around the shifter. In an interior so gorgeous having easily scratched and cheap looking gloss plastic was an easy critique. And about the only one I could make. If you made it this far thanks and stay safe!
@thatoneguy77ish

@Ichibuns

Coming from a Forte GT owner, the Mazda3 interior is much nicer. The 3 is also much slower and cost a LOT more. If the 3 had the power curve I wanted and I was willing to spend the money for it, I would have bought that instead. After spending a whopping $22,000 out the door for a GT manual, I'm not disappointed in the least.

The Mazda interior is a little more premium, but doesn't have the cooled seats of the Forte GT. Kia's infotainment system is great, very easy to use. This is a slightly nuanced, but I think most reviewers who complain about the Mazda infotainment have issues with the UI and controls being unintuitive not necessarily that it doesn't have a touch screen. Mazda revamped the visuals of the UI but I think they need to reassess how intuitive some of the most common functions are (going to a specific radio station, inputing GPS directions, etc.). Really analyze how many button presses it takes, is the UI both logical and *consistent* that users can learn how it works. My car has a touchscreen infotainment (but physical HVAC controls) and honestly just using the steering wheel buttons 95% of the time.

The Dynamic Duo of Interior Design Reviews strikes again with another quality review. From being in these Mazda cars (3&6) while training for my car photography job and watching many reviews I would have to agree with what both you and Beth have said. It is super nice, yet very quirky. I wonder if the quirkiness is why it doesn't sell as well as their main competitors aside from lack of dealership support across the country? It is renowned as the most beautiful car stylistically inside and out, by practically every car reviewer/journalist, but the performance from what I have heard is lacking vs. competitors now. No Zoom Zoom. (Which I am sure that you have or will mention in the driving review. The thing that bothers me the most is the infotainment screen placement and use. The way that the dash comes down in front of the screen at an angle with the screen set down inside is very deceptive and looks like part of the screen is blocked by the dash. Secondly most non Mazda drivers that would look at this vehicle and get past the exterior beauty would find the use of the knobs and the system quirky and confusing even if Mazda stated that is why they did implement it that way. Thanks for sharing.

As a 5ft tall woman with a mazda 3 with the same features. Its not as bad as he makes it out. Its exaggerated and i LOVE MY MAZDA. Even the infotainment isnt as bad as he makes it. Using apple carplay ( which isn’t blocked on base models by the way) makes it a one step process to change a song. And realistically if youre using the radio you shouldnt be just scrolling channels anyways. Theres features to set favorites. Where just by turning the knob while on fm it can chance the channel setting. My only complaint is the AC i wish the vents were different but this car i own as a base model isnt that different from the 2020 premium. I have a 2019 hatch base model and its very similar minus the heated seats, charging pad, and driver electric seat, along with other minor cosmetics. i just chose not to get the premium because like i said before, its not much different at all and it tacks on way too much when you reflect on the differences.

I'm from South Africa and all the trims have have a heads-up display even the lowest, I have the second trim and it's a good middle ground. The car is way better than the Golf GTI that I had, again all our models even the lowest trim has Android auto and apple carplay. Really don't understand why you'll don't have that on the base trim. This is like the 4th time I'm adding 2 the comment the standard 8 speaker system which I have is not good gonna definitely change it to something better but I want to put the subwoofer in the spare wheel like how they do it professionally with the Bose

If Mazda had kept the independent rear suspension and offered the manual and AWD together, I absolutely would buy another 3. I've owned 2 Mazda3's previously and loved them both, but I fear Mazda is losing its "zoom zoom" ethos.

For the price I do not understand why anyone would pick up one of these over a Kia Forte GT. Cooled seats, more room, power, and better suspension setup for 4k less...

I agree, although this does have AWD. But even at the same price as the Forte GT without AWD, the Mazda is clearly for those interested in luxury. I agree most enthusiasts would rather have the extra performance and features of the Forte GT, myself included.

@@MattMaranMotoring It is too bad Mazda is aiming more for luxury than affordable fun. Their higher pricing is clearly hurting Mazda3 sales.

auto industry is dead man walking. with everyone working form home who can to the rest of the country being broke, demand will be gone. wait till the end of this year, you'll probably be able to snag a car third to half off. plus it always amazed be the average car price was 40k while half of all americans made less than 30k. talk about a debt bubble ready to explode.

Actually, the price of vehicles has little impact on debt bubbles. Just because a vehicle is brand new $40k and the average family makes $30k doesn't mean that person HAS to buy that new vehicle. It's a problem of people trying to live outside their means and thinking debt is a way of life. Are things more expensive while inflation has also gone up? Sure. But that doesn't mean people can't spend wisely. I'm 42 and I've only owned two vehicles my entire life. Just because the world doesn't operate completely fairly doesn't mean people have to screw themselves over even more so.

Mazda interiors are becoming Copy & Paste across all models...really lacking creativity in my opinion. The need to differentiate their interiors. The info screen continues to look dated. BTW...I am an owner of a Mazda CX 3 and 2007 MX 5 convertible hardtop...so I am not bashing Mazda

They're a small company, so likely they can't afford it. The 3 and cx-30 are almost the same exterior panels if you remove the cladding on the 30. Still far ahead the competition and their stuff seems to last

@@Suction_ being a small company should be an advantage. less bureaucracy. it should be easier for them to change something in their cars compared to a company like Ford, or GM.

@@trippplefive Still cost money to produce multiple parts and such, which they may not want to do. You can tell they take advantage of skipping the bureaucracy by actually fixing problems rather than just letting them go and or blanketing them up and producing quality stuff. Unlike GM and the AFM in their V8s that burn oil like crazy or the ignition recall BS that lasted for years. Or even Ford and the new explorer with horrible trans programming and panels that don't fit together from the factory. Especially on that last one, I'd much rather a similar interior across models if its built well

Even large companies like Ford have that same approach. It has nothing to do with Mazda or being a smaller brand. It's called creating global products. Vehicle manufacturers would rather create a company theme that appeals to a broad range than an interior only designed for North America, one for the EU, Japan, etc.
