If you want a current generation Mazda6 you're well advised to get one soon. The sales of the current generation are dismal. And that's in a Mazda lineup that's almost as bad (with the exception of the CX-5.) In calendar year 2019 sales were down by 30% compared to 2018 to 21,500 sales. That was bad enough but in the first quarter of 2020, sales dropped another 35% compared to 2019 to 4500 units. VW managed to sell nearly 6000 Passats in a challenging COVID-19 impacted marketplace. Mazda6 buyers may not care that consumers ignore the vehicle but Mazda surely does. Along with the terrible sales of the CX-9, the Mazda3 and the CX-30, the question of how long Mazda can remain the smallest independent mainstream manufacturer on the planet before it becomes a division of Toyota.
@A22DNAL

Sad IMO...A person who wants to drive something OTHER than what everyone else is driving (i.e. a hideous VW) would do good to consider this car. The only reason I didn't buy was simply b/c no 6 cyl. option. Otherwise, this car especially in the cream interior shown here, is absolutely marvelous!
@stephenhendricks103
4 жыл бұрын
@@A22DNAL I can understand your sentiment. I felt the same way about Saab vehicles when GM absorbed the brand and went on to kill it. Likewise I was sad to see the Mazda RX-8, a superb (though flawed) 4 seat sports car, disappear as a result of anemic sales. I Owned examples of each. Hell, my first car was a 1954 Kaiser, another unique brand that disappeared from the same cause. Nevertheless, a mainstream manufacturer cannot survive by selling cars only to people "who want to drive something other than what everyone else is driving." I'm not a fan of the VW Passat but when a manufacturer has a model with worse sales than that slow selling vehicle , it won't last long.

This is our 2nd Mazda 6 and 4th Mazda overall, we love them! I have this car in red and we love it. The turbo is a bit laggy, but this isn't a sports car sooo.... Nice power for passing on highways. Overall a very, very nice car. We've thus far found 1 major negative: The backup camera resolution/quality. TERRIBLE! No exaggeration: My 2020, $14k entry-level Chevy Spark's back up camera is minimum 2x the resolution! It is unacceptable that the top end Mazda sedan has such a low res camera system! Our 2016 Mazda 6 had a higher quality back up camera! My theory is that since this latest gen Mazda 6 went to 360 camera, the system's processing power wasn't upgraded and can't process data from all the cams in higher resolution. Or just a cost cutting measure. In any case, if you plan on test driving this car, keep your expectations low for the camera quality. Everything else, amazing!
@jasonlandlock8043
2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what it is. The new Mazda 3 uses the same exact parts number or the backup an 360 cams but the 8" infotainment system is all new and much faster in the 3. Maybe the next generation 6 will get the 3's new screen or maybe even a better one exclusive to both of the new 6 and CX-90.
@MemoriesDestroyUs

i think your opinion on the infotainment system is completely backwards, the scroll wheel is much better than anything out there right now. it is a touch screen fyi it just doesnt work in carplay and if it did you would always have so many finger prints on the display that during the day you wouldnt be able to see a thing

Nice to see that this car still holds its own even after the last couple years! I rarely seen any on the road even after these 2 years which I actually prefer... I have had my Mazda6 for 2 years now and my only complaint was their choice of tires. These All Season tires really hold the car back!! Once they began to wear down they were better but the car needs more grip so that it can put the power down! It has been fun and the car has only had premium fuel (occasionally I mix in some 100octane just for the hell of it) and on trips have gotten up to 35mpg but still had gobs of power for passing etc! Its super comfy and I am glad to have gotten it! I waited a long time to get a car that was comparable to my 2006 Mazdaspeed6 but AWD with a manual is really needed to really do that! Its probably just as fast but the gas mileage is significantly better even in the city. I am averaging about 24mpg in the city. pretty much inline with the sticker. Getting some new tires installed tomorrow and they are a much more aggressive design that should wake the car up pretty good!

The ventilated seats in the Mazda6 actually 'suck' air through them instead of 'blowing' air out of them like most other cars. They are definitely more effective than many others I have experienced. Must be because it helps draw the heat/moisture away from you instead of just blowing on you relying completely on evaporative cooling. Plus it also appears to suck some of the cool air from the front vents around your sides to your back before being 'sucked' in to the seat which would be cooler than the air some other systems have inside their seat before 'blowing' on you.

I think Mazda is correct in NOT putting touch screens in their cars. I do agree they could upgrade the camera but otherwise the central control panel becomes super intuitive and easy once you use it for a awhile. The truth of the mater is that you will only be doing a few basic functions when driving. Select a song, toggle back to Waze, or pick a pod cast and toggle back, volume, answer/hangup a call, read a text, etc. You'll find that the upward position of the screen is perfect for driving and keeps your eyes on the road while the button controls on the center console become supper intuitive and easy with a little practice. For instance, you can use the back button to toggle back to your last field with ease. You can get to most any function in under three button hits and then back in one more. All without looking away from the road. You don't need a touch screen for any of this and using a touchscreen while driving is very dangerous since its not tactile so you HAVE to look at it to use it. The voice controls are more then adequate to make a phone call or pull up a preset location on Waze or Google Maps. If you need to type in an address or search for things beyond the button controls efficiencies then you should pull over anyway. The way Mazda is doing it is safe, super intuitive and efficient and once you learn it is actually one of the best ones I've used. (comparing to Ford, GM, BMW Mini, Merc, Hyundai)

I agree on the color option - Love the Deep Crystal Blue on my Mazda6 and the red is super nice, but the downside is that it is a fragile paint here for the North East. I'm surprised at the increased weight compared to my N/A 2.5L '17.5 touring model with manual transmission however. Mine has a weight of ~3200 lbs., which is 300 lbs less than this higher trim model. I know Mazda added even more sound insulation, but for '17 they got most of the way there (IMO) as I can drive long distances with no wind and very minimal road noise. For me, my Mazda6 fits me as my daily commuter and part time family vehicle with more than enough room, fun driving dynamics, and I'm getting 30+ in mix driving over 36k miles. It's also been rock solid to date. Hope they bring back a manual option for when it's time for my next purchase!
